cjh reacted to ruggerdude in HDMI HDbaseT Matrix (No Hassel AV)
    Howdy all,
Built my house in '09 and we decided to give it a big refresh this past fall.  Part of that was new (much bigger) TV's.  Probably hard to believe, but we had still been rocking component using the old Sony Component Video switcher (never died, a beast).   We had to upgrade to HDMI and move to an HDMI matrix.  I got pricing from all the big players, including C4, and the numbers just blew me away.  We have 10 TV's so no small solution for us.  I had read an old review hear about No Hassel AV on these forums and called them up to see what's doing.  Long story short picked up their new 8x16 HDbaset 4K HDR ARC Matrix for $4k, everything included.
Dropped the thing in my rack, connected the receivers to my CAT5, HDMI to the TV's, connected the matrix, and fired it up.  Took about five minutes to setup the EDID and output settings on what was a remarkably good web interface, and I was off to the races.  The analog audio output worked like a charm and down converted perfectly.   Control4 programming was quick and easy and the driver worked off a serial interface.  Like all my projects I promised the wife a couple of hours and normally spend a couple of days.  With this matrix I was done in one hour and blew the other hour playing with the dog.
I will say, the name of the company could use a bit of polish and the all amazon all the time website probably saves them a few bucks.  But the company was quick to pick up the phone (and a real human) , they were knowledgeable, and nice.   All around a winner.

The days of needing pihole are gone. Just use a filtering dns like adguard or even better (more customizable) nextdns. Setup an account with nextdns (free!) and you can add blocking lists and more. Very good, quality, service. Then on your router / dhcp server, push out the nextdns dns servers and you are set. On your c4 hardware, use 1.1.1.1 or 8.8.8.8 for dns and you bypass the restrictions. Done.

Yes. But requires on-prem hardware of some sort while the likes of nextdns do the same thing but without the hassle of maintaining hardware/software. Of course, some still argue the value of that setup

I’ve used Amz music and Tidal and Spotify. Our preference is for Tidal as it has the tightest integration for programming. Aka I want a certain playlist when I turn the outside on…my kids want to choose a playlist from custom buttons in the touchpad… Tidal gives the most options and is most flexible imho. Haven’t used Pandora Prem so can’t compare to that.

I’ve seen the single click trigger multiple movements before. It was/is worst inside the Apple TV+ app. One click to move down scrolled all the way down to the bottom. It is inconsistent and doesn’t behave the same across different apps (haven’t seen the behavior in say the Netflix app) and also comes and goes. I’ve found no rhyme or reason - or fix. But yes, do confirm it happens!

Sorry to see that challenges can’t be resolved outside a public forum. That said, I stopped reading the installers response when he didn’t even get the Op’s name correct … that alone tells me a story.

If you use the latest version of Android Subsystem then you shouldn't need 4Sight.  They fixed things so that now the Android emulator has access to the local network.

cjh got a reaction from South Africa C4 user in C4 IOS today’s update bring in faster experience
Yes, same experience here. Wallpapers and temperature values are correct again - at the expense of load times.

I noticed when installing and upon the first connect that it had reverted to showing me details on the Connecting screen aka getting devices, getting project items, etc. The faster load versions never showed those details.

My theory is the devs rolled back some of that faster load code to fix all the bugs and give themselves time to properly test and rollout the new loading code.

Just my gut instinct being in the software business for too long.

    Yes, look at https://voicemonkey.io/
That service takes in an api request and triggers an Alexa routine (to play a sound, start music, say something etc)
I built a quick driver to send the api commands I wanted and it works well.

Agreed. You could take what I did above and automate the full thing. I found the other bits not to be that time-consuming (and I don't do it so often) so the investment of full automation wasn't there for me. But would love to see your python script when done! Heck, put a php interface on top and open it up to the world Upload two images, name the experience button, and presto you have a driver ready to load.

I built this batch file (sorry, windows only) to quickly do the work. All you need is the default experience driver unzipped and a selected/default png image and the script does the rest. See "instructions" in the comments.
*Use at your own risk. No error checking. Enjoy. Works for me

Don’t turn the matrix off, this causes EDID issues and it’s not needed at all.

then the power off command should work okay.

helped a fellow member with their Atlona matrix too and this was advised by atlona tech support

For those seeking answer to How... in the c4 app, go to playlists created by me and then choose add to library. Took me a while to find this. Once you do this, the playlists will be available in programming to select.
