Oh look -- another week, another thread about Unifi vs everything else.
For what it's worth -- a typical C4 install's networking requirements are _very_ different than enterprise/corporate/campus networks.  Pick the right tool for the job.

We moved into our new house last week and just put the finishing touches on the Control4 system. There's plenty more to tweak and explore but we at least have all the components integrated and the basics work.
    System consists of:
    - Core 5 controller
    - Josh AI Core and Josh Nanos/Micros throughout the house
    - UniFi network gear and cameras
    - Kaleidescape
    - 8 zones of audio with Klipsch speakers
    - AV receives for two living rooms with Formovie Theater projector for basement living room
    - 16 channels for panelized lights
    - Integrated security system - mostly used for smoke detectors and various sensors to use with C4 programming.
I can't wait to mess with programming more as soon as Composer HE works again.

After reading your thread a second time, I really do like the idea of having the two options separated into Watch and Listen. That makes sense and would be easy for my daughter to keep straight. I assume this process would work with the TV and its internal apps, as opposed to an external streaming box.
I am going to talk to my daughter some more, but I think your plan has moved to the top spot of my options!
    Much thanks!!

I do something similar to what you want.. I switch between internal TV sound and in-ceiling speakers (a zone on my matrix).  This is how I do it:

What programming. What additional equipement? You'd be buying stantdard lighting strips vs buying all in one packages. Complexity is relative.
Why? Because it's a standard, it's well maintained, well documented, and will outlast any 'brand' - Because it's universal and doesn;t rely on a brand to begin with. Because it's very capable, and it doens't rely on internet, cloud etc.

There's NOTHING wrong with using other options for small projects or very specific functions (for example, the Govee I use is used only for it's TV screen tracking backlight and all i do is turn it on and off) and I have a few Hue bulbs in specific sports where it was convenient to use them as wiring wasn't feasible. But I did my complete basement using low voltage lighting: there was never a doubt that I'd be using DMX for it.

LollerAgent reacted to DanITman in Sun Position Driver - Beta Testers Needed
I wrote a sun positioning driver that I need help testing.
Driver allows you to trigger events in Control4 based on the suns location.  This is great for shades and allows you to mimic control like Lutron's Natural Light Optimization. Driver calculates the sun position based on your project location and timezone.  This driver does not require an outside API and all calculations are done on the driver itself.
Below are the variables that you can use for conditionals.  Driver fires an event on every calculation of the sun position.

Sun Interval: How often the sun position should be calculated.
Azimuth: Direction of the sun as compass coordinates.
Altitude: Angle of the sun in degrees.  (Positive - Sun is above horizon | Negative - Sun is below horizon)
Season: Current Season based on Location
Trending: If the Sun is going UP or DOWN
Last Event: Day, Night, Civil Twilight, Nautical Twilight, Astronomical Twilight, Solar Noon, Solar Midnight
If interested in testing, please DM me your email and I'll send you a beta trial.
    Thanks

The only thing that matters is the cloud status / top message. But make sure you're running driver Central cloud 1028 or later
The bottom one happens because I send a message when it happens to be disabled, but I don't send a message when it gets enabled . I wait for the message to get overwritten by something else (which might take a while in some circumstances which I didn't realise at the time). The new beta explicitly overwrites it. Otherwise, you can just reboot the controller if it bugs you but if the driver is working, it can be ignored

@Andrew luecke I recently had the trial expire on my Shelly driver.  I have since purchased the driver -- the agent says "License Activated" but the individual Shelly device is reporting "License Invalid. Driver Disabled."  Any ideas on how to fix this?
    Sorry for the hijack.

That is literally the reason I initially created the driver.  That and because different manufacturers have different auto lock maximum times, and most of them are too short for me (60 seconds, usually).
I want the lock to re-lock after 5 or 10 minutes of inactivity, and this driver resets the activity timer when the door is closed as well as not locking while open, so it's reliably '5 minutes after the door is last closed', or 5 minutes after the lock is unlocked (if the door was not opened).

Ah yes, I love it when the deadlock engages while the door is open and then the kids slam the deadbolt into the door frame.

You mean automatically activating a zone when you start playing to a zone from the Spotify app?  If so, yes, it's called "Auto Play" on the driver config.

I hope you are right and I hope they do listen.   To me it looks like C4 is trying to mimic (unsuccessfully) the flat Savant user interface.  I also hate the sub-menu under the new 3-line hamburger in the latest revision of OS3 so much that I refuse to upgrade.  The colors and flat iconography is just a mess.  To see them doing more of the same on the Halo has me worried they are going down the wrong path.  As I've stated before, I am ok with flat design, it just needs to be done well (like Savant) to make it look elegant and modern as opposed to it looking like a 4th grader's homework project making icons in PowerPoint...
People get heated (including me) about interface design because it is the INTERFACE and user experience.  Everything else under the hood can work fantastically (and for the most part does in C4), but if the user interface and experience is disappointing it unsteadies the entire ship.

Yeah - I agree.  The styling of the new menu is pretty bad.  The icons/fonts of the "old" menu are much nicer in my opinion.

I believe so -- I'll check when I get home.
This is true -- but I actually prefer the functionality that I have.  It allows me to define precisely how I want to group/join sessions.  For example, if I have a session on in my Kitchen area, I might not want to hear the same thing in my master+master bath, but I would want to hear the same thing in my master bedroom+master bath.
Programming allows me to do the following:  "If I double tap (join) the 'Music' button in the master bathroom, and there is an active session in the neighboring master bedroom, join it.  If not, check to see if there is an active session elsewhere in the home (eg, the kitchen) and join it instead."  It allows me to specify an order so to speak.
Of course you may be able to do this in B&O as well - not sure.

Use the room control driver -- simple.
On button press, if a session is active in room X, join that session.

I do the same thing with C4 native audio using the Room Control driver's "join" functionality.  Super handy - and we use it all of the time.
An example:  we are listening to music in our master bedroom, but want to go take a shower in the bathroom.  Double tap the "Music" button on the Bathroom's keypad, and it will automatically join the master bedroom session if it's on.

LollerAgent reacted to 416to305 in Why does the Core3 report back constantly to events.split.io?
Well I'm glad I banned it because it's the #2 noisiest device on my network right after scribe.logs.roku.com.  events.split.io and auth.split.io are non-stop being contacted.  In the last 24 hours there have been 1152 blocked requests to events.split.io and 96 to auth.split.io.  I've blocked it so not a big deal but just wanted to post here in case anyone was unaware how frequently their Control4 system is reporting in on them and tracking what they do.
This is directly from the split.io website as posted earlier: "Record events that measure your customer behavior across your application including clicks, views, checkout events, page load times, or any event that measures your customer experience."  So, while you can say it's used to track feature flags, that doesn't change the fact that your own website states otherwise.  There's absolutely no reason that it needs to contact your servers every 30 seconds to track "feature flags."
Very disappointing and not something I'd have expected considering the high cost that Control4 was to implement.  This is something I'd expect to see on Smartthings or another consumer/budget device.
"You can change that to the frequency of your choice." - I am waiting for my Dealer to get back to me and confirm they have changed it / removed it.
