I just have a different point of view I guess.
This isn't a mobile phone that travels with me away from home, its a device that stays in my room and controls the C4 system in my house.
The charger is literally in the same room as the remote.
It feels 1000% better in hand than the playskool 260, and has a nice screen for album art/GUI.
In my usage, its way more reliable than the Neeo it replaced, and battery life is comparable.
C4 is still making the 260, right? If you need 74 days of battery life and simply cannot stand to put the remote on charge, use the 260 and look at yellow text.
$500 is too much for what it is, but the Core controllers are expensive as well. Inflation I suppose.

Also: I've used about every Harmony remote that exists and prefer the feel and utility of the Halo.

I would also say give things a chance. This is a brand new remote with new technology and new firmware. There's only been one production release and I imagine that further releases will enhance the experience. Don't consider it. A never to be updated product. There will be updates coming out

If you think the Halo battery charge is bad, don't ever look at that those fancy Crestron 310 remotes which cost twice as much. Those batteries last about 3 hours.

Very easy to fit and looks very smart
You do need to buy from guys if you wish C4 to work with it

I think Roku, nvidia shield and Fire TV are probably the most popular, not sure if any of them are available in your region though. Chowmain do a driver that works with a lot of android tv boxes but I have no experience with it

This just shows the love people have for the HC800, incredible piece of hardware evolved throughout the years to provide what we have today, kudos for C4 for producing such device and we look forward for more 😃

These disagreements are based on assumption though, not experience with the HC800 software stack. They literally said it's a seperate stack they need to maintain (so isn't straightforward).
Take the time you believe it will take to develop, and multiply it by 5. Something this complex won't take a day, it will take significantly longer.
Don't forget you're still managing an entire OS and migration process which involves more than simply turning off director. It also must be secure too and they need to migrate the old config, remove the old project, etc. And all of this is done using low level code.
And how many major feature improvements are those other companies making to their devices after 10 years? The hue bridge was supported for 8 years, but not much changed with it in that time.
This request basically requires a whole new firmware to be made. It always seems to be a quick job. But 90% of the time it isn't.
That's composer related, not firmware (different teams most likely anyway). Have you suggested these changes to Control4? Control 4 often relies on feedback for prioritisation of features and if nobody makes the request, they likely won't work on it.

What about all the things they have added though? Such as the ability to add c4z files in bulk, colorwheel, new encryption APIs, mobile web interface support, new voice control, the core series (which also seemed to enable a lot of New things which most drivers aren't even using yet), the eq features on the new core, eq support on audio drivers, the ability to hide buttons on certain proxies, etc.
In practice, Control4 has improved so quickly in the past year, that driver developers have been struggling to keep up (I've probably personally spent 4-6 months of the past year upgrading drivers to use the new features).
I don't think it's fair to pick a few things and say "what about these". Well, what about the things I've mentioned?
The new features list I've mentioned affect day to day operation significantly. Shouldn't these be prioritised?
Huge changes have been made. Whilst it would be great to get everything done, there are limited development resources and limited hours in the day.

That is such a bad way to view this - and exactly what the data miners want to hear.
Understand - if you're willing to forego privacy for cheap products, that's your call to make. IMHO, we've been selling our data for a cent on the dollar - I'm not 'afraid' they'll 'catch' me with anything at all - just feel like we're being ripped off.

Thepritch88 reacted to timbooo in Painful T4 in-wall installations / Netgear PoE problems?
Appreciate the responses, and I kinda expected the overall tone and I understand it. However I have used a great number of these switches in the past, with a great many different devices including Draytek, Pakedge, Ruckus, Netgear APs, Control4 EA1 (PoE) controllers, Crestron touch panels, Control4 T3 and even early T4 touch panels, Hikvision/Reolink/Pakedge PoE CCTV cameras. Never a single issue with anything at all.
As I said we had some T4s from the early batch (with the shonky screens - one of them is showing all kinds of whacky ghosting already) and even those didn't give any grief. Powered up first time every time. And now half a dozen of the new wave T4 touch panels arrive and they have all exhibited issues. I understand blaming the switch because it's not particularly high end, but it seems to me that it is the T4 which is doing something wrong/different here.
PS I have of course tried different cables, different midboxes, in the wall, out of the wall, single device on the switch, fully loaded switch. It's almost random whether it works or not.

I just feel like there's something up with the new T4s. But it looks like I'm alone in the combination I'm using, and Control4 tech support weren't interested in investigating it, so I suppose I'll have to switch (ahhh, terrible pun work).

Thepritch88 got a reaction from AnthonyAU in Driver Wizard
This can be tricky if the manufacturer hasn't made discrete input select commands. You could try googling for the IR codes for your model of TV, if you find a list see if there is any commands for HDMI1 and HDMI2, if there is you can copy and paste them in to the driver wizard and see if the work. If you can't find the IR codes you'll have to create a macro within the driver to change inputs. When you start creating a driver, near the start of the wizard on the driver properties page it will give you an option to select "discrete input selection" tick this box if you can find the IR codes for the inputs you want, if you can't find them leave that box unchecked and you'll have to configure the macro to change inputs later on in the wizard.

Yep, slowly catching up with Crestron pricing. 😉
But as always: if you look behind the scenes and just add up the component cost, you´ll get mad. Shouldn´t do that - you´re buying a solution, not a piece of hardware. 🙂

Thepritch88 got a reaction from azkid in Flirc IR Firestick driver for Control4
Here's an IR driver for a fire stick with the amazon logo. I'll also attach the config file for the flirc that the driver was based on. I use the IP driver on my system so I can take advantage of the mini drivers then switch to the flirc driver with a bit of programming when a mini driver is selected so I get IR control

Yea man the 302 feels like a more premium remote. I wish C4 would come out with a wider range of remotes to suit different needs, I would love to see a simple waterproof remote for bathrooms and other wet rooms

Thepritch88 reacted to Matt Lowe in Spotify vs Deezer
Big miss i think here if you have a Deezer HiFi plan. The sound quality that deezer provides is much better than many of the streaming services only rivaled by Tidal MQA. Both of which C4 supports. Deezer streams FLAC files at 16-bit/44.1kHz. Spotify 320kbps in OGG, and if you are using a phone speaker who is going to tell the difference. However if you paid for some nice audio in your home might as well take advantage of it. I am sure if you car supports spotify connect you have alternatives for other music services i am sure.
