  1. IMHO ZigBee performance and cooling

It’s been my understanding that the zigbee radios are identical in the EA series and actually better (or capable of being less constricted) in the Core series. But all in all identical for each model per series. That said, zigbee devices are very likely to have programming code written against them, so the additional processing power as you move up would benefit the programming execution. Does anyone have the comparison chart handy?

  2. I paid for this gear on February 15, 2024 @txc4tech and you ghosted me since.  I have messaged you continuously since asking for tracking with zero response.  You have sold me gear before, so I know you fully intended to ship it and you get busy, but I'd say a little communication goes a long way.  I'm going to need the gear or a refund today please.  And yes, I know this is in open forum, but you gave me no choice.  If you contact me, I can ask admin to remove this post.

  3. Just get a z2io and it runs off wall power. Has temp and humidity.

I think he’s trying to bury something in the fan housing … at least that’s my understanding. I think the H&T is all he needs. Program the wall switch against the H&T conditionals. When humidity is =>?%, fire fan switch. And the follow up conditionals, of course.

I’ve been using the Cleerline fiber aoc hdmi cables without issues.  I’ve used just about every length they have too, up to 40m.  They also package a M/F HDMI to USB dongle if your source doesn’t provide 5v on the line.

i mostly do commercial work, so Zoom or Teams rooms or BYOD conferencing.  These cables have worked without a hitch.

Granted, I haven’t yet tried pushing what you’re trying to, but at least it’s another vendor you can try.

Similar experience with Cleerline. I still gravitate to Bullet Train only because I know the team over there well and know that I’m going to get things working one way or another with them.  Like @lippavisual mentions, Bullet Train also comes with the 5v dongle.  I’m shocked they didn’t find a way to get you situated, they love being challenged.  I wouldn’t give up on them.  Ask to have them take it to engineering.  Like most on our industry, these guys are nerds like us that just don’t take no for solution.

Again, you are definitely pushing the limits, but it’s pretty sad that you aren’t asking for more than these products advertise they’ll handle.

In general, I would agree with everything you've said, and Bullet Train is a go-to brand for HDMI woes. That said, I have not found any brand or cable type that has been 100% reliable with higher bandwidth.

I'm working now with someone needing 48gbps (madVR Envy to JVC NZ8, using MotionAI at 4k/HDR/120 fps). His run is around 10 meters. He bought 2 Bullet Train cables rated for 48 gbps and neither worked. Ironically, he has an older Bullet Train cable, 15 meters, rated at 18 gbps, and it runs 4k/HDR/120 fps without breaking a sweat.

The bottom line is that HDMI is a crap shoot, especially when you get over 30 feet, and passive cables aren't an option. This doesn't say anything negative at all about Bullet Train, as they're generally better than most. But it does mean anybody buying a more expensive cable should clarify the return policy, because problems arise, regardless of brand or price.

Can’t say I’ve tested those exact specs.  But what did they say when you called support?  I had one 15m flicker, but never any other situation where I didn’t get a picture at the spec I expected.  But again, I was 18Gbps on a 48 rated AOC.

Also wondering about this. If I have an AVR in a separate room with a total cable distance of < 50 feet, would it be better to go the conduit and fiber route or just use one of the standard CAT6 runs with HDbaseT baluns? I'm not looking for crazy performance, just be able to carry a good 4k signal with 60 frames per second.

I’d do fiber over HDBT all day on your scenario.  I don’t know your situation in terms of how hard it will be to pull a cable, but conduit would be a best practice, not an absolute.  If you can pull a 20m Bullet Train AOC Fiber HDMI you will be very pleased with the outcome.  I know I keep saying “Bullet Train”, but I have heard horrible stories about other brands not performing.  I’ve never had a single issue with BT Fiber HDMI.  I have several 40m runs that spec out perfectly at 40m with zero compression.  These cables are 48gbps rated.

  7.  I've recently been using fibercommand HDMI over fiber and all of a sudden there is no video. Not sure if it's a cable issue. What other HDMI over fiber or optical HDMI brands are recommended

100% Bullet Train Fiber AOC HDMI. Complete support and the golden AVPro warranty. If you’d like, message me and I can quote you.

  8. Per @chopedogg88 - you could try to do the “panelized” hack and hide 2 of the the load controls (easiest to reroute to a closet, etc) for these circuits and install 2 KD’s at the local gangs? This way you control 2 loads locally and the other two programmatically over zigbee.

As @SpencerT beat me to it! Easier would be to grab two Shelly minis and fit them in the 2 gang box behind a KD. Then add the Shelly driver, two KD120277’s and a few bindings (or lines of programming)and boom!

There is a rumor that Sonos has a new pro amp (likely rack mounted) coming out this year for between $3k and 5k or something like that. Unclear on whether it’s multi-zone or more of a receiver/port replacement with significantly upgraded internals.

We’ve heard that rumor for several years.  HEOS has been doing it for under $3k (HEOS Drive).  It’d be a fantastic piece of it comes to fruition.  At that point, it seems that it’d be time to sort out the api and driver so that it allows the use of steaming audio miniapps versus the current 2 app solution for searching tracks etc within the C4 ecosystem.  At that point, it’d ding Ryff pretty good I suppose, so I wonder.

I hear the argument every day that the fact that you can only access playlists and favorites from a C4 navigator is not a problem.  I see it as one   I find that most of the people that don’t view it as an issue are Spotify users that have to use 2 apps already.  Not everyone is a Spotify user and native is an all in one distributed audio solution.

I’d like to hope that this new Connect RRM allows for deeper integration of 3rd party products like Sonos (considering it’d be a seriously competitive alternative solution to native).

  11. Leave the app switcher unhidden.  Normally, this is only necessary for deeplinking.  Unhide all Roku for that room on that room.  Your mini apps, player and switcher.

The Josh driver picks up audio routing, so if this all works as it should with a C4 remote, it should be working in Josh.

If you’d like, I can have a look tomorrow if you link me.  Juat message me and I’ll give you my email to link me temporarily.

  12. Id like to hear the reasons for Autonomic besides your dealer makes a profit on it….

Today, Autonomics (and Sonos) have deeper app integration with Josh voice control than native C4 audio apps. Not sure the techical/licensing reasons, but the workaround for those doing distributed via native streams is to add a Sonos port or more.

To be clear, this isn’t a Josh vs Control4 thread, it’s a Josh with Control4 thread. I have never integrated a standalone Josh system. I have done many Josh systems that integrate “into” Control4 for voice control. The argument cannot made that the synergy is incomparable to any other voice integration. It’s quite powerful and very useful.

  13. Thanks to our forum host we have a place to discuss Josh.ai and C4 integrations. They have a dealer model and don't handle support directly. There are some nuances with how these products work together so I think a forum can really help dealers and customers.
I had interest in testing out Josh.ai so I bought a single Micro and mated it up to my Core3 project.
I'm about a day into the integration. I'll list some issues here, but I think it makes sense to break them out as separate topics to make a living knowledge base a little more accessible.
    • Setting up a device is an iOS adventure only. This wasn't clear from any public facing documents and is obviously confusing since there is a Josh.ai Android app. There is a parity gap between the apps. While I used to work for Apple, we don't have any iOS products so this was a small hurdle.
    • A user account that was blocked for some reason on the Josh side, but nothing told us what the issue was. Josh support fixed it after wasting cycles on trying to understand the problem.
    • The Micro setup is easy when on POE. It still refuses to set up on Wifi.
    • The import into Josh required some cleanup. At the moment its not clear to me how best to handle it's desire to control devices directly vs controlling them through C4.
    • It's not handling more than one stream of music and is instead grouping zones.
    • At times it has repeated itself in groups of three. Like it has a stutter.
    • At times it asks you a question, but it's not listening for the response. Makes for a weird interaction.
    • I've noticed some weird UI issues like in Pandora its showing some numbers where it should show track names.
    • ...
I do think it's cool. I'm confident in the platform. Hoping discussions can help smooth out future integrations.

Very good feedback and it’s very much what I would expect.

The “cleanup” is more of a reorganization or some revising of device names. For instance, initially Josh was very particular as to where the device was, vs C4 didn’t much care of you had lighting (for instance from other rooms “unhidden” in a different room), but “areas” solved that.

As for music, I struggle a bit with playing playlists. For example, it’s not intuitive at playing “My Weekend Playlist”, but I don’t have ever scenario on my main Josh (Home) - Sadly, while I’m moving to distributed audio via Mirage or Native with Sonos Port inputs, currently I have HEOS and Micros. HEOS integrates, but you’d want to authorize HEOS in Josh.

For @GregCAMS - have you tried a few Sonos Port inputs into your audio matrix? It adds additional services and tends to work well. Native is so limited today. Usable, for sure, but limited right now.

I’m glad there is all of this banter about Josh integration with Control4. I’m clear this is a Control4 forum, so I definitely don’t care to read about a stand alone Josh deployment. To be 100% transparent, I’m a Josh dealer that has never integrated a Josh system outside of Control4. I can speak to the fact that unless and until there is a real native voice solution, Josh is a fabulous addition to a Control4 system. They don’t fight each other, the synergy created in the driver is powerful for each.

  14. I'm liking the deep linking that Josh can do with a Roku. I have mostly NVIDIA Shields, but bought a Roku because Josh has good control here.
How does this integration with Roku work when you have it also integrated with C4? I guess I want C4 to control the room and want Josh to have some deep linking. Asking Josh to play XYZ when the room is off is working, but it's not turning on the AVR. I have optical out on the TV to the rack.

All of the Josh AV routing is pulled in from C4. In your C4 project, make sure the Roku is in the room you are wanting to send Josh commands to and it’s working in your C4 project. Passthru should be set to on in the C4 driver and be sure to leave “Roku”unhidden in the C4 navigators. That’s annoying, but necessary for deeplinking.

  15. They throw the touch screen and proximity sensor in for free.

Has the proximity sensor been confirmed? I’m getting conflicting answers.

Ha ha. The video showed a Shelly integration. The guy talked about future Home Assistant integration. One C4 3rd party integration that seems pretty popular is Kasa. People, even rich ones, want to be able to use the stuff they see on Amazon, in Home Depot, or at Best Buy. Some of the Matter stuff is getting interesting, for example. Will C4 users get direct access to these devices? Probably, some day.

This is precisely why I find the synergy of the two platforms fantastic.  Anything that works with Control can work in Josh, regardless of Josh direct support.  Here’s where it gets tricky… I can control every device on my Control4 system via Josh voice and the Josh App (barely ever open it… I’m here for the voice), so I assume the new touchscreens launching will do the same.  Seems like a serious conflict.  And potentially a reason why Snap is moving more toward recurring revenue.  Less dependency on hardware sales?  It’s going to be interesting.

  17. Do you mean the actual networking or do you mean issues with the voice stream to the cloud/edge? Wifi vs ethernet?

Ethernet is no issue. Wifi can be a bit finicky bringing a micro online. It’s not a reason to shy from it, just that some Micros take more than one attempt to get online. Mostly solid thereafter.
