  1. Thank you. I really only need it to run composer, Lutron and similar software that runs on windows as I use Mac’s otherwise. Maybe a small NCU and a pullout keyboard / display (used on eBay) is what I’m thinking
  2. What model you use? I’m not familiar with servers, will they run windows and allow me to use AnyDesk?i
  3. I use AnyDesk to remote into a current home but not familiar with this. Is it better? Or go virtual machines. Many use a local 'admin station' that has access to all vlans (for e.g.) which means you can VNC/RDP into that station to carry out config changes. Making this hardware is also fine (even if a laptop) but most prefer to use equipment with out-of-band access in case of hardware crashes.
  4. I am setting up a new C4 based system and would like to have a computer running in the rack to permit more access for programming, etc. I was thinking of just keeping a cheap windows laptop on rack shelf which seem can be made to stay on even when lid is closed. Have others done this and worked well or other recommendations?
  5. I’m about to pull the trigger on autonomic. Anyone have experience with it recently and how it has performed? Surprised it doesn’t get more attention as only real integrated solution
  6. Although sounds like the comands are easier, I like Alexa in that it allows news and weather updates, intercom and announcements etc, which I understand Josh can’t do.
  7. For background music the AAC might be enough but not ideal and not holding my breath for more given you can even do hires in any practical way even with wired Apple devices
  8. I tried this a few years ago and it did not work. I’d say locks are one of the more disappointing things with C4 as there seems to be better solutions for HomeKit like accurate and level.
  9. Thanks - I was able to confirm it’s AAC 256 for Apple
  10. Does anyone know whether the AMB outputs Apple Music in Lossless Hi Res? Also, what is the quality level of the DACs in the streamers? thanks
  11. Agree as I have some of those already elsewhere but it’s the new steel windows that I’ve heard could be a problem with some sensors and was wondering about that.
  12. Any experience with wireless window / door sensors that work on steel window / doors that are small?
  13. From what I could tell it’s about 2k for two streams otherwise I’d need two Sonos connects, which is about 1200. while I have 8 or so zones, I really don’t need more than two streams the 800 difference isn’t very meaningful in the scheme of total project
  14. It’s incontrovertible though that Apple is a leading platform that isn’t going away and C4 should prioritize full integration
  15. Super helpful and better question is why haven’t they?
  16. For clarification, the Autonomic offering is approved by Apple not a workaround that could be bricked one day?
  17. This seems like it would solve a lot of the issues? Curious as to why it’s not more widely implemented
  18. While using Airplay with Apple Music works fine you then also have to use the native app for any other service you are using (like SXM). You can aggregate the streams in the Sonos app but it is an inferior interface to all the native apps so you find yourself going back to those from time to time anyway. And agree that relying on favoriting items to My Sonos to find them in C4 is only satisfactory if you are only going to listen to the same things all the time.
  19. I asked this on different topic but moving to separate topic not to hijack that one. I currently have Apple Music and SXM through Sonos with C4 and, although it works reliably, I hate the jumping around between apps. I am moving and debating dumping Apple Music and going with Amazon Music (I can transfer playlists with Soundiz) and SXM directly through C4. This is just for whole house music as have sep listening room so less focused on absolute best quality. I am trying to gauge whether folks feel the user experience of navigating music directly from the C4 app is attractive / intuitive / polished vs defaulting to the native app, whether that is Amazon, Tidal or something else, or an intermediary like Sonos. Thanks
  20. Dumb question as I was looking at the IQ4 but am unclear as to whether I actually need a panel as will be using the C4 panels to turn alarm on/off. I really just need a hub that deals with security logic (although agree that not sure why this can’t just be programmed directly into C4 since I am just using wireless windows and door sensors that are C4 compatible) but can’t find that.
  21. Curious if you have made a decision. I currently have Apple Music and SXM through Sonos with C4 and, although it works reliably, I hate the jumping around between apps. I am moving and debating dumping Apple Music and going with Amazon Music (I can transfer playlists with Soundiz) and SXM directly through C4. This is just for whole house music as have sep listening room so less focused on absolute best quality. would love any input on this
  22. Does anyone have experience with the Airzone units that integrate with the Mitsubishi units?
  23. Take a look at Airzone Aidoo Pro. It retains full functionality and is two way. I don’t have it yet but planning on getting for my Mitsubishi splits install that is in process
  24. Thinking about lighting while doing extensive renovations and wondering if dim to warm or tunable lights are worth it. Concerned that with dim to warm, unless lights are designed such that base scenes are running at 100%, you are effectively always in the warm region. Tunable would solve this but they don’t work with standard dimmers and would require a lot of app interaction. (Btw I am leaning to Lutron for dimmers integrated into c4 system but Ketra is out of budget). Appreciate any perspectives.
  25. Thanks - i do plan on just using regular dimmers in the non common areas and I am debating between going with Lutron or C4 for the lighting. I have lived with another install that had C4 for control and Lutron for lighting (with dimmers bunched in closets) and it worked well. I’m going with third party keypads anyway this time (not palladium, which is why I chose Lutron that time vs C4) so revisiting the issue.
