  1. Finite Labs variant is far more polished and developed in a much more professional manner. There are many quick updates pushed out as soon as issues arise as well. Wouldn't even bother messing with any other variant.
  2. They will only pass along HDMI-extracted audio that is PCM -- it can not pass along any non-PCM audio.
  3. They do slip in a little card in most of their boxes stating you can receive a credit for Amazon if you leave a review. That said... There stuff works very well and the cost is a bonus. Support is surprisingly very good. Phone, email, and even iOS/iMessage Business Chat (which is surprising given their size). I had one of their 8x16 HDR units that supported Dolby Vision, but getting the EDID to work consistently with Dolby Vision was making things rough and the WAF was not good. I also realized I really needed to have TrueHD/Atmos and DTS-HD MA/-X downmixing (which their matrixes don't support) so I switched to a AVoIP solution instead that had downmixing baked into units. Still would recommend them for large installs on a budget.
  4. Depends on a) how much you're willing to spend vs b) how "bad" you're willing to set your source device's audio to make it work. Devices that can downmix DD 5.1 or DTS 5.1 and lower can be had quite cheap -- usually around $50-60. If you want to downmix anything above that, including TrueHD [Atmos] DTS-HD MA [X] be prepared to pay as the licensing for that decoding is pricey and thus downmixing units for those are pricey -- as much as $1000. WyreStorm makes some great downmixers for around $270: https://www.wyrestorm.com/product/exp-con-h2-dd/ AV Pro Edge also has a downmixer, but it's far more expensive: https://avproedge.com/products/ac-avdm-auhd. The AV Pro Edge downmixing functionality also has more customization of how you want center channel audio to be presented and if you want it to be amplified more when placed into L/R channels
  5. Oh man -- it's been about 2.5 years since I had them. I dumped them once Bally Sports+ launched for the Wisconsin market. I only had them so I could watch Brewers and Bucks games since they were dropped from YouTube TV. I'll gladly help you out anyway I can (including Zoom or whatever meeting software you use) but I haven't used it in a long while and don't remember what buttons were mapped or not.
  6. The more research I've done, the more I'm finding out this is still actually the same company, with a rebrand of the player and lineup. Evidently the "R" is to match the Reavon brand
  7. Interesting developments with R_volution as it looks really similar to Zappiti. EDIT: There is some relationship here between them and Zappiti; links on the R_volution website are linking to the Zappiti domain... Little bit of a preview by Let’s Get Physical Distribution Inc. for Michael Stevens (Youthman) from the CEDIA Tech Summit in Orlando :
  8. This along with video quality are usually the two biggest considerations when doing distributed video. SDVoE solutions (eg. MXNet 10G) are the "least laggy" ones out there. SDVoE is a tech that is being used in the medical field for surgical and procedural applications.
  9. @videostorm taking a look at the estimator and the encoding devices needed. I'm not seeing any devices that make mention (but they may support) of HDR, Dolby Vision, Atmos, DTS:X. Does your system support that?
  10. If you're looking for the absolute best products I agree with @chopedogg88 (who gets me my AVPro Edge stuff) and @GregCAMS. They are really the best around and have a lot to offer. For best quality with least amount of headaches, I would go with the AV over IP MXNet lineup. If 1G, use EV2. If you want the absolute best image quality with the least amount of delay, go with the 10G. 10G is built on the SDVoE standard and offers some cool features such as built in mutliview (up to 32 views I believe), gen-lock, Dante, and 1GbE alongside the video. If you do go the 10G route and want to use PoE, note that 10G PoE switches are still quite pricey and only a few are focused on AV. Netgear has essentially created and owned that market outside of first party switches. I'm sure @GregCAMS can answer any questions about the 10G system. I have the 1G EV2 system in my home.
  11. Well regardless of truth, recurring revenue is the name of the game and investors love it
  12. It's also worth noting that there may be higher spec features available outside the spec in lower spec (DV and eARC available in 2.0, for example). Just because something exists as part of a spec doesn't mean it can't exist outside of it. Or better said: You can have eARC without HDMI 2.1. But you can't have HDMI 2.1 without eARC.
  13. Wait...there are credits you get for this when you buy a K-Scape system?
  14. Pros and cons to DIY vs K-Scape, that is for sure. The quality and integration is second to none with K-Scape. In some cases the bitrate and quality even tops that of what can be bought on UHD Blu-ray. With no DV support it first and foremost is designed for projectors. Tough price pill to swallow since I already own more 850 Blu-rays with more than 150 of them being 4k Blu-ray. Really don't want to have to buy those all again, even with "disc-to-digital" program they have.
  15. It does work -- I used it myself for a few months for Bally Sports before they launched their standalone service -- but you'll need the IRUSB device and whatever driver is compatible with that guy (can't remember off hand).
  16. Wow--didn't realize Zappiti was on the verge of liquidation. Looks like there were red flags as far back as March but they said all was well and it was just a "brand" issue and the hardware and everything else would continue to be find. Guess it wasn't. Really wish K-Scape would allow local media to be added to their system. Would buy it in a heartbeat--but then again, they don't support Dolby Vision
  17. I have the Evolution 2 (EV2) version of AVPro Edge AC-MXNET in my home and love it. Works so well. If you want ethernet pass through, however, and it's a hard requirement, you'll need to jump up to the 10G version of MXNet, which is using the SDVoE standard. Keep in mind the price does jump quite a bit, but SDVoE has the lowest latency and can natively do some things like Multiview natively. That said, I primarily went with MXNet EV2 over Binary because it can handle Dolby Vision and the support and warranty is rock-solid from AVProEdge. I can't speak to the functionality of the drivers for the Binary MoIP solutions, but for both RS-232 or IR control at endpoints for TVs/AVRs/etc, no IR or serial cables need to be plugged into the MXNet controller or an encoder to "bring it into the system" or "passthrough." The MXNet driver handles it all. I have another Cat6a drop at each endpoint so I don't worry too much about IP Control there--plus if I can use serial control, I generally always prefer that.
  18. Agreed...they have some beefy budgets these days at a good cost. Plus there really shouldn't be too much requiring that much power anymore. PoE has gotten quite a bit more efficient in last 5 years. Likely is suggesting since besides Araknis and Pakedge it is one of the only other brands of networking gear for him to get from Snap.
  19. I'm sure others can chime in with reasons for it, but if you're looking to have any audio from an external device distributed by the HDMI out of the controller, you'll want to ensure audio from a the audio device or audio matrix is coming into the controller to ultimately be routed out.
  20. Just wait until they start trying to configure a MikroTik!
  21. I've had similar issues with this stat/system in the past with something similar (but my stat also eventually got fried by my furnace, which is a whole other story). Oddly enough, despite the WiFi/networking reporting as good, I actually recall that it was more a networking issue than anything else. We have all UniFi APs in our home and I created a dedicated 2.4GHz channel (which I see you did as well). For some reason I also found an older version from a while back of the AP firmware that worked, so I don't ever upgrade it and that's the only AP the stat's SSID is running on: Can you try the Domosapiens driver for a little bit? Don't know how long the trial is on it, but check to see if it's an issue. How many IAQ systems/devices do you have in your system? If only 1 system, you may want to wait and check out the new S86WMUPR from AprilAire. I don't believe it supports more than one IAQ system at this time in addition to Heating/Cooling, but more are to be added. Additionally, my contact at AprilAire has stated that they're getting C4 and other automation drivers currently developed. Just a thought...
  22. It's really not that bad, but I get your point. I have the 8840 as well for their entire IAQ system and it's fine. Granted, our stat is in our utility room and we just use a bunch of the 8083 sensors in areas around the house instead, so we never really see the stat and just control everything on T4 panels.
