How can I play music through HC-800 Audio out to an Amp input?

Recommended Posts

Sorry, I'm new to the AV side of composer. I want to plug my amp into the audio-out of the HC-800 using a red and a white cable, and have the Amp play they music that's coming through those red and white cables.

Is there a way to play mp3's through the 'AUDIO OUT 1' STEREO connection of the HC-800?

Do I need a driver to load the MP3s? Is it even possible to play music through the AUDIO OUT 1 Stereo connection?

I feel like this should be very simple, but it looks like everyone else has the controller controlling another device that contains their music.

Thanks

You can do this with mp3s fairly easily. First you need to add a network path and configure that so control4 can scan your mp3s.

Then you need to put an amp driver in the correct room and add the bindings between amp and controller

Okay, I've added my mp3 to \\192.168.20.144\media\audio\newfolder\song.mp3

There are no devices under Media Scanner > Files to scan > Devices

The 'Start Scan' button is greyed out, and all the folders on the right are empty.

Which amp driver do I add? I have a guitar amp. But I can only find seemingly specific amps (Right now I put the  'Control4 8 Zone Amp' in)

Thanks!

Eric

Would I still need a driver if I don't want to control anything on the amp? If I just want to feed it an audio signal through the RCA?

Also, I didn't put the path anywhere, that is the path to where I copied an mp3. Is there a network share path driver?

Yes and Yes.

For the first - the system needs to be 'aware' that there is a location to send something to.

For the second, the system needs to be 'aware' there's a place to send something from.

Okay, so say I want to play a song every time a contact sensor is triggered. In programming, what device is doing the playing? Is it the Amp? Or is it the network file storage?

Is something like the programming below possible?

When Room--> Contact sensor Contact is Opened

Set Room --> (Amp,network file, hc800?) to Play song chopin.mp3

Also I just figured out that I needed to add a Network File Storage driver and then set the path to the controller audio folder. Anyway, now I can see my mp3 in the Network File Storage, but I still don't know how to play it.

The 'playing' is done by a controller.

The music for direct use shows up under 'my music' on an interface.

To do what you want you'd have to create a room, have that amp driver be the room endpoint (it's possible to do this without by the way as a controller can be an endpoint if desired, still needs that setting done though!)

Then yes you can program that, you'd go

room->play stored media->song/disk/playlist however you'd want to do it.

Awesome!

Thank you so much Cyknight. It works, didn't end up needing a driver for the amp.

Steps:

1) Add music to controller folder \\192.168.20.144(Controller IP)\media\audio\newfolder

2) From My device driver list, add driver Network File Storage.

3) Open that driver and set the location only to \\192.168.20.144(Controller IP)\media\audio\newfolder

4) Physically connect amp to Audio 1 of HC800

5) In Connections AV, select room, and connect Audio endpoint 1 to the Audio 1 of the controller.

6) In programming, Select Media, and then under commands, play media.

Done!

  • 4 years later...

Does this still work with OS 3.0?

I usually play a CHIME through SONOS, but I would like to play the Chime through the HC-800.

The mp3 file is located on a USB drive connected to the HC-800.

After scanning, the USB and chime file show up on the Media tab.

HC-800 is connected via RCA cable to an 8 channel matrix amp.  All connections to rooms are made properly.

What I cannot see is where to select the file to play in programming?  The quote above says select Media

I do not see Media as a selection.  Can anyone advise?
