Sharp TV has no IR but uses RF remote control

Recommended Posts

Hi there,

I found out that my Sharp TV uses an RF type remote controls rather than a traditional IR type, so no obvious way of building a C4driver.

Has anyone actually integrated a device to decode RF from a Sharp TV & converted it to IR for just this purpose, i.e. Control a Sharp TV with Control4?

I found some info on a Matterlink Multi-X device which may do the job?

Can anyone advise on this issue of whether or not the Matterlink Multi-X device could work?

Regards

Just because the remote is RF doesn't mean there's no IR port.

And if the issue is getting codes - either try existing drivers as codes rarely change, of if that fails - using a Logitech remote see if they have codes. Between Logitech Harmony and C4 there's not really a device out there worth using that you can't get codes for....Logitech remote, just using the cheapest one, can easily be used to learn codes back to C4.

Thanks for the replies, I hope your right about the IR.

I'll go and check to see if I can find an obvious physical IR port on the TV.

You sparked my interest to try & find out more from the manufacturer.

The particular TV model is a  Sharp LC-49CFE6031

Info I found from http://www.umc-uk.co.uk/sharpcodes.php

So I potentially have some codes to try as but then looking at the Table below it is simply listed as RF with no option for codes?

Important note. Most models of Sharp TV’s launched from August 2015 onwards use the very latest ‘RF’ technology as opposed to earlier models which use the previous technology called Infrared (IR).

Currently, Sky use the older ‘IR’ technology, therefore, their Sky remotes (up to and including Rev 10) cannot operate our newer models of TV’s that use ‘RF’ remote controls. (The same applies to the vast majority of models launched by most of the premium brands whose models launched from Jan 2015).

In the future, Sky should launch remote controls using ‘RF’ technology which will mean you will be able to use a Sky Remote to operate the basic functions of any new Sharp TV. (as well as most other premium brands).

Thanks for your replies.

I spoke to customer services. They told me that I could purchase a small IR board which could be fitted internally in the TV in place of the RF board & of course I would need to purchase a remote control as well to learn the codes etc.

Well I've just made an executive decision.

The RF Sharp is relegated to lower level duties & I have now purchased an new Panasonic 4K TV today.

It is a much better prospect to integrate as it has an internal menu setting for Control4 & is fully compatible with a recent Panasonic IP driver Panasonic TX-50DX800B.

So tomorrow will be dedicated to Installation, Setup & finally Integration into Control4.

Should go smoothly.

thanks again for your time to comment anyway.
