shades/blinds choices

Time to choose the shades for my new home project. I know nothing is perfect but looking for the best integration. We are looking at HD currently. I have read the posts about the hub issues etc. Would like a wired solution instead of all these repeaters talking back to a hub. Anyway what is the best working solution today for shades/blinds that integrate with c4?

Your best working solution would be HunterDouglas Hardwired shades using ESI controls. Most wireless devices have some sort of range limitation or repeater requirement.

With HunterDouglas hardwired you get the selection of most HD products with full shade feedback and numerous other features that depending on the window covering chosen could be a huge difference in your experience.

Theory, understood, but if a someone is asking what is the best integration with regards to Control4 for MOTORIZED blinds, it would probably be best to tell them which motors work the best (regardless of who is making the shades).

The motors are almost irrelevant, 95% of motorized window coverings made use Somfy motors.  That does not represent the integration of the product.  Somfy has some motors with integrated control mechanisms, but this does not represent integration by saying using Somfy motors has been good.

Know the products you want for the windows you are trying to put window coverings in and look at what our options are.  The HunterDouglas ESI controls can be used on pretty much any window covering provided it uses a dumb motor.

Using Serena Shades with Lutron Smartbridge, 1 bridge covers my entire 1-story 3000 sqft house. They are running on D batteries, had over 1 year of daily use (timed up/down) and have yet to replace any batteries. Couldnt be happier. They add up fast ranging from 300-700$ per window but they are awesome. They also integrate via the SmartbridgePro with Alexa and Homekit, AND the control4 driver is FREE!

Twice a year they do a special that is considerable, i believe 15 or 20% off

i have HD and the SHADES are amazing. good quality, great customer service. i have wireless ones (as didnt get to put wiring in during the build) so i'm limited to the drivers at hand. however, as a few have mentioned, hardwired will give you complete control over amazing shades.

To be fair - going 'Somfy' from a WIRELESS and very simplified point of view makes SOME sense - as in motors compatible with RTS/URTSI II are fairly easy to integrate using the URTSI II and available drivers (I would suggest using a 3rd party paid driver vs Control4's old one!).

"If looking at shades - see if the ones you want can be outfitted with those motors."

But yeah - hardwire, hardwire, hardwire. OP mentions this is a new build, so if at all possible......

Hunter Douglas PowerView (and older Platinum) integration is so-so due to limited API - so IF you have to go wireless/battery operated, it may be worth looking at alternative options and see if they have the style and design you're looking for (QMotion, Lutron).

Of course if you have a good Blinds etc specialist in your area, and that likely means it's a Hunter Douglas dealer, then go and ask if he can get your blinds of choice with a (Somfy) RTS compatible motor (again - IF wireless is a must).
