cjh
c4 Gurus - Need some assistance getting a c4 switch and keypad working in a 3-way scenario to power a half-hot outlet. I think for the purpose of this discussion (unless I am wrong) we can ignore the outlet is half-hot. The diagram below shows how I installed the switch and keypad. The switch is working fine - it is controllable from c4 and the outlet works as expected. The problem is with the keypad. It doesn't seem to power up and it doesn't control the outlet as expected. I'm sure I have something wrong in the wiring. What's wrong? Could you offer me pointers please? Second question - is there any specific composer pro programming required for the keypad? THANKS in advance.
dcovach
No programming is needed and the C4-KA will not show in the project. Hard to say exactly what you did wrong but the C4-KA should not be connected to a load wire. Wall box 1 (C4 switch) needs to be downgraded to a 2 way circuit with the light only. You will end up with a dead wire across Wall box 1 and Wall box 2 that was formerly used as the travellor. You connect the C4 switch and aux keypad (yellow) dolphin wires together using that wire. cjh
Thanks for the speedy reply. Is this updated diagram what you are saying? Does that imply the red off the c4 switch just gets capped and unused?
msgreenf
What is a half hot outlet? It's hot or notSent from my BBF100-2 using Tapatalk
cjh
The top half is switched (controllable by the switch) while the bottom outlet is always hot. Thus - half, hot

There should be a yellow lead. that gets connected to the yellow lead on the KA. The red is the switch leg and that would get connected to the hot on the half outlet. The other half of the outlet would share the non switched hot. So if there is only 3 wires going to the outlet you will only be able to make it full switching and not half. cjh
@Matt Lowe RE: couple issues here. You are missing a wire on the switch. There should be a yellow lead. Interesting. Maybe this is an older ver of the switch? Here's the diagram from the install instructions. Thoughts?

Cyknight
You have an older version switch/dimmer, those are not compatible with the newer aux switches (and if you had it powered with the original diagram, you likely killed the aux)
sonic30101
@Cyknight mentioned the newer aux doesnt work with the previous gen lighting. Also looks like the switch needs to be in the other wallbox since the redtwice is the switch leg that goes out to the terminal of the receptacle for switched control
cjh
The moral of the story here is connect gen1 switches to gen1 aux keypads! Thanks all for the insights.
