Possible to use Chowmain Variable Manipulator to update float variables?

I am using the Variable Manipulator driver by  @alanchow.  What I would like to do is calculate an equation and set a device variable (on a thermostat) equal to the result of that equation.  My problem is that the relevant device variable is a float, and the result of an equation in Variable Manipulator appears to be a number.  Is there some way to convert the number into a float, so that I can update the relevant device variable?  Is there any other way to achieve my goal here?

Did you find a way around this issue, as I've also got the same issue in trying to calculate a number and setting a set point with the result.

 @alanchow Is it feasible to alter the driver to have a float variable.

My workaround was to create a set of if-then decision rules to set the float-valued variable based on the number-valued result.  It's a little cumbersome, but it does the job.
