Resetting the dimmer

The main breaker blew at our house today (construction workers). None of lights would turn on after the breaker was reset. I went to the Dimmer control box and turned all the channels off then on but now the switches do not work and the lights can only be turned on or off by the channel button. I also don't remember which channels were used or not for each switch. This I can solve by trial and error as I do not have a map/schmatic (is there a was to do this other than trial or error/process of elimination?) Regardless when I turn a channel on I can't get the switch to control the zone - help.

Mr Amature.

I would reboot just the bus ethernet gateway (pin point reset button, just press and release) and see if that brings the keypads back online.

Other question would be - can you control lighting using a touchscreen or the app (or even a remote)

This is an old thread, but I just suffered the same thing.  The difference is that I lost power to my controller, I/O extender, and switch, not the panelized lighting panel since they are on a different set of circuits.

After the power outage my keypads stopped working.  Coincidentally (or not), my I/O extender lost connectivity.  I moved the cable to the I/O extender to a new port on the same switch and it worked fine.  So I have a hunch that the switch might have lost some ports.  Because the switch and the I/O extender are in the same rack it was easy to do this.  I have no way to trace the cable for the panelized lighting without purchasing a toner and climbing into the attic.  Since it is night time now, I'm hoping that it is something else that I can resolve another way.

Configuration:

  • OS 3.2.1
  • EA-5 controller
  • panelized lighting
  • Wired Configurable Keypads

Symptoms:

  • Keypads don't respond to presses
  • indicator lights are illuminated on the keypads
  • Lights work via remotes and app

Troubleshooting steps already tried:

  • reset Bus Ethernet Gateway by both pressing the reset button on BEG and power cycling circuit breaker
  • Nothing on BEG looks out of the norm
  • reset IP address in Composer (not pingable but shows up as online in Network connections, also does not show in IP address scan, strange??)
  • rebooted controller (EA-5)
  • rebooted zigbee server (EA-1)

What else can I try?

Problem resolved.

For the benefit of future readers... my problem was a failed switch which happened to service the Bus Ethernet Gateway.  My installer put in a small 8 port switch in the rack but it was wrapped around all of the cables and not visible.    So I was troubleshooting the wrong switch until I noticed this small one.

Moved the cable to a working port, all came back to normal.
