Speakers Buzzing?!

So, I recently swapped a 4 zone matrix amp out for an 8 zone amp (non-matrix amp) and a 16 zone audio matrix. My audio now consists of the audio matrix, the 8 zone amp and an 8 zone matrix amp.

Connections go to the matrix, then the matrix outputs go to the amps and then obviously the speakers are hooked to the rooms. Here’s the problem. All the rooms that are hooked up to the 8 zone, non-matrix amp, BUZZ...ALL THE TIME. The only way to stop the buzzing is to turn off the amp. These rooms didn’t buzz when connected to the 4 zone matrix amp, and the rooms hooked up to the 8 zone matrix amp don’t buzz at all. Just the ones hooked up to this 8 zone, non-matrix amp. Any ideas how to stop that?

Do you have power running next to your audio signal cables?  It sounds like you have some type of ground loop interference.  I would start by unhooking cables one-by-one to see if it eliminates the buzz.  Try not to route power and audio cables right next to each other, etc.  Try bypassing your UPS.  These things can be annoying to track down.  If all else fails, there is a chance you could have a faulty amp.

what model is the 8 zone amp??  Is it the new Triad one or the older C4 branded one??  The latter was notorious for this problem.  Bad design through and through.

If it is the latter, get your dealer to take it back and get the Triad unit.

It is the C4 branded one. I don't have power running next to the audio cables, but on these connections I did use some really cheap RCA's. I'm going to be moving in a month or 2 and reworking the entire rack, so I just bought some super cheap pre-made RCA cables to get me by until I re-work everything with custom length cables.

I appreciate the suggestions, guys. I'll play around with some stuff and see what I can figure out.

Its not your cables.  Its the amp itself.  I believe it was the gain circuitry boards that they used.  Keep the gain knobs very low and you can still hear a faint buzzing.  Turning the gain knobs up only amplifies the buzzing even more.

These things should have been recalled by C4.  They certainly didn't last too long in the marketplace for a reason.
