I've done it with T/F variables.  As an example - create a variable called Door Announcement.  Say you want it active from 9am to 9pm.  So every day at 9am have that Variable become True and at 9pm have it switch to False.  in your programming, if Variable Door Announcement is True....and if Variable Door Announcement is False....and you can program off those T/F states.

+1 for this method as it gives more flexibility.
