MyQ driver stopped working yesterday

true.  all of the drivers in the online database are free (with purchase of Control4 system and paying a dealer to implement it), but does that mean that we should assume that any/all of them could just crap out at any given time and we are SOL because they were free?

So why do you seem to be so against this driver while at the same time offering to sell/migrate people to the Drivercentral one?

I tell everyone the deal before I sell it. It's a customer's decision at the end of the day. But I give them all the info they need to make an informed decision

There's not a lot Control4 can do when a partner either removes or changes their API without notification, or with short notification.

That said, a driver based on a published API is much less likely to have this happen.

RyanE

Absolutely true - and if there was a published API, bMyQ would be using it as would the DC driver I’m sure. But there is not and so this is what we have.

I missed the part where you actually answer the question - you call my work a “hack” and at the same time profit on another identical “hack”. Does “all the info they need” include your financial arrangement with DC because you are clearly motivated to put the customers’ interests ahead of your own.

I don't see how you can say I put a customers interests before my own, at the time it was the only software option.  Your driver has existed for under 24 hrs....if your driver were available I would have given people that option too.

and to add - for a lot of my customers I do tell them my profit margin on the driver.  I can think of a few that know exactly how much I make by helping them.  Do all customers know this no.  But whats your profit margin? How many hours did it take you to make it?

No business ever tells customers their profit margin....

And it took you 10 mins to call it a “hack”

Another non-answer answer

this -

@bnet driver option was not available when you quoted @msgreenf response offering to switch people to a different driver.

@bnet - Your driver is about 50% of the cost of the other one out there from Cinegration - without hands experience with yours (just seeing the write up) the Cinegration option has probably 2+x times the features with dedicated phone/email support from a staffed help desk running regular 9-5 business hours 5 days a week.  So your price is fair and I am sure you'll find your customer base.

So even with your option maybe some dealers, especially if dealing with a "hack" or "reverse engineered" solution - may prefer to go with the more expensive driver from a company who has been around longer, has more features and a dedicated support line.

Maybe your driver will cause a little competition in the market place and that is a good thing, so I wish you good luck as a MyQ user myself the more options the better!

The bigger question, why does MyQ waste time with integration partners like Clare Controls or Wink and do not bother with any of the CI channel - not even Savant, Elan, Crestron, etc.  Seems odd.

For me personally, after the Sonos debacle, and losing connectivity on my purchased Alexa/Hue driver, my current MyQ garage door driver with Cinegration is my last unofficial driver I'll buy - and that is just a personal preference.  Happy wife and a working system is more important than trying to tie in every bit and piece of the latest and greatest to only have it crumble and be left with headaches.  C4 has enough official integrations I think I'll get by

I've setup the bMyQ driver last night at my house and it seems to work very nicely and was quick to setup.

Question - Is there any way to allow for polling at durations of less than one minute? I notice that 1 minute is the minimum for your driver as well as the DC driver. Figuring there is a technical reason for that but wanted to ask anyways.

Also it would be nice on the bMyQ driver if it would authenticate and discover the motors as soon as you press the set button on the username and/or password fields rather than having to go to Actions and press the button. Minor gripe but was not as intuitive as it could be.

re polling interval -

short answer: there is no technical limitation

long answer: Polling is a balance between keeping the driver’s device status up to date vs overloading the MyQ API.  I have seen other apps poll as frequently as every 5 seconds –a setting that would seem to get your implementation banned (by mac/ip) within short order. 1-minute intervals seem reasonable but any feedback on this subject is welcome.

re authentication action -

on other drivers i had initially done away with the authentication action design.  the issue was that, believe it or not, not everyone knows or enters their u/p correctly the first time.  when the driver fails to authenticate after the u/p is fat-fingered a few times, the account can get lock.  so, i've been using the read / aim / fire method for authentication.  it is an extra step but only done once so i hope its not too much of a distraction.  that's the reason anyway - perhaps a poor design choice.

Chameberlain and MyQ probably finally shut off that stupid hack.

It's going to be awesome.

Call your dealers and ask them why they used a subpar integration that was known to be a hack and not an official integration.

Rumor I heard is that MyQ/Chamberlain want to charge a fee for every open/close event and that is why Control4 is struggling with having an official integration.

And that will be the day I de-install MyQ.

Encourage everyone here that wants MyQ integration to contact MyQ and make your feelings known:

https://support.chamberlaingroup.com/s/email-us

(choose Product Type as "MyQ" and Issue as "Does Not Work As Expected")

I submitted a request, got an email back from a human saying that it was being passed to their Development team.

Sure, we could be pessimistic and say that nothing will come of it, or if enough of us engage, perhaps there will be a change.

If they can have Apple Homekit, Alarm.com, and Clare Controls integration (remember, Clare has strategic alliance with SnapAV who owns Control4), there is zero reason it cannot work with Control4.

Maybe also a few strategic calls to SnapAV would help...

People have been complaining to Chamberlain Group for several years about their subscription based integration with IFTTT and others. They got smart and started offering a limited time free subscription. The plan is to get everyone hooked on the integration and then start charging.

This is the world we live in, subscription for everything and planned obsolescence of equipment.

Seems straightforward with Clare Controls.  Why Control4 is lagging behind on this is unbelievable.

Yes, it is $10 per year to MyQ.  I would pay it and I think the vast majority of Control4 owners would have no problem with that.

I'm confused the drivercentral.io driver is still working for one of our clients

Yes, it still works and will continue to work until Chamberlain makes a change that potentially kills it.  C4 has just asked for it to be removed from sale, I’m guessing on the request of Chamberlain.
