Jakelay
Wanted to see if I could get some ideas about an issue I’m seeing on our new system. When we either turn on a room (usually Tv but I can’t narrow it down specifically yet as I haven’t had time to go through each zone) or a source changes we sometimes get a crackling noise coming from our speakers. Trying to get some input as to what others may have seen. I’m thinking either the video matrix (Atlona Opus) audio is having an issue or there is something going on with the Triad matrix or Triad amp (24x24 and 8 zone respectively). It isn’t consistent but happens often enough that it’s noticeable. Any thoughts about troubleshooting to find the cause or does anyone have any knowledge about what this might be based on experience or KB alerts? Thanks! First I'd see if you can limit it to a zone/zones. Then you can look at any hardware they share. If it is just when switching sources it could be just the "dead air" you are hearing between sources? Does it get the new source audio pretty much ASAP once you see the video on the screen? Sounds stupid but make sure all connectors/speaker wire etc is firmly attached to their end points. Are audio cables running parallel with any AC power supply cables?
Jakelay
Thanks - all things I plan to have the installer help with. Didn't think about the AC power supply idea though. Will check that as well. It seems to happen when turning on a specific zone or two and then when the source changes. I'm thinking it's that 'dead air' you're describing while the HDMI does it's handshake but it seems like it shouldn't be happening. Thanks again! Thanks again! if audio cables meet power cables they should cross perpendicular and should not be running parallel - that could cause some interference. speaker cables, RCA cables, etc. anything audio oriented. Köhler Medientechnik
A "crackling noise" sounds more like a cabling issue to me - i´d check the speaker cabling if there´s a loose (=not 100% firm) connection somewhere. Interference usually creates more subtle noise during playback. but no crackling.
