Another third party "let's put that genie back in the bottle" -- IFTTT

"Name your price" lowest amount allowed is $1.99.  If I only had a handful of things--but I'm way past MRC fatigue...

Yes, the article claims you only get that price for a year, but I think that is wrong.  It's an indefinite amount of time that's allowed.

EDIT: the article was probably right when it was published, but backlash seems to be pressuring IFTTT into adjusting the deal with the devil.

Indefinite amount of time that's it's valid, it's just not defined when (or if) it will change. Not quite the same thing.

Sorry IFTTT is garbage, I can’t have an action that takes 2 seconds to work, am an inpatient person ... I really hate cloud based solutions as well ...

And truly unfortunate there is still no integrated solution for geofencing.  Now I have to buy IFTTT and the driver?  I buy the driver to work around stuff C4 should be offering by now...

Try the basic free ifttt w paid driver.  I don’t think you need the pro paid license for geofencing?

They limit custom setup to like 3 different ones.  Not enough for a family of 5 even for basics.  That's why I'm asking here though, if I'm missing something, but I don't think I am.  They already e-mailed and said I had more than 3 and would be deleting extra ones...

and it's really a question of do you think you are getting $2 a month in value from it...if you aren't then turn it off...

I don’t think I am but my payment proves that incorrect... Problem is that it will take forever to teach my wife to say “turn on/off blinds” instead of “trigger open/close blinds”  and it is not intuitive.  Unfortunately, we don’t have access to Alexa routines or I could probably manage around this!

Summary: a grudge purpose with the aim of “happy wife...”

Is Pro anyway faster? Also why you don’t have access to Alexa? I don’t mind wasting $2 a month but on a good purchase and usage 😁

We have Alexa, but not the App (not available in South Africa) so we have to use the web interface which does not have Alexa Routines.

I don’t think IFTTT pro is any faster. This is simply monetizing IFTTT.

But u can always setup a US Account and download all US apps, it’s not a big deal but I can’t live without it, I also have Alexa Auto and it’s great with BMW iDrive infotainment ...

Agreed... I must try that at some stage...  In theory, I should be able to change my country of residence to the USA on my normal account... but can’t do that without cancelling Apple Music... definitely need to try your way some time!

No need to do that, just create a new account with a new email for a US account and use this account to download US apps, I also have Apple Music but I guess my account was always US and I use Egypt Account for very few local apps ...

Thanks @Amr - I took the plunge this morning and it was relatively easy! Took me 15 minutes to get the Amazon App and another 2 hours to create voice scenes and routines to replace 28 IFTTT triggers.  Now I need to find out how to stop my subscription to IFTTT pro and train my wife to say “Alexa, close blinds” and not “Alexa, trigger close blinds”...

I must say @jfh was right.  He has been saying (for a couple of years) that Alexa routines add great value and I can see that now that I have them 🙈 - suspect I will be doing lots of playing over the next week or two.

Interestingly, IFTTT stopped working with the Chowmain driver when I upgraded to Pro.  I will need to figure this issue out as I have 2 IFTTT triggers that have nothing to do with Alexa which I want to keeps. As this is less than the 3 allowed for IFTTT standard, I should be saving money...

Way to go ... Have fun, can’t imagine u used IFTTT that much, I have it only to play with, had used it with Yeelight, Flick Buttons and Knocki, I hated it, can’t stand to push a button and the response comes in 2 seconds! I also hated Flicks and Knocki as well, all these gadgets are really garbage ...

IFTTT Pro doesn’t necessarily increase speed but “prioritizes” your applet... so could theoretically run faster then a non-pro user, until more people are on Pro.

Generally, for what I use it for, it works great. My main applet is geofencing to have our garage door open when we pull up in the car.

Actually you can use HomeKit for that and it’s very precise ...
