A low cost tablet with Intercom!

One of the biggest things requested has been a low cost intercom enabled tablet.  This has actually been possible since the 2.7.1 Days!

Hardware

Right now I think some of the best hardware to do this on a $129 Lenovo Tab M10 HD which has a great charging dock or the $99 Lenovo Tab M8 HD which has the same base but trades the 10 inch screen for the 8 inch screen.

Install the control4 app as you normally would and install the Linphone app.

Basics

Then in control4 you need to add a Universal SIP driver to the room where you are using the tablet.

That is how the intercom appears in that room.

Then configure Linphone to use that extension.

Improving the experience

You can use the Control4 in Pinned app mode which will make it be the main app running but then you will miss incoming calls

You can also enable Google Assistant Ambient mode to allow you to have a phone screensaver and information screen for Google Assistant.

Need help? Message me and I am happy to help you with this setup.

Should I post more details? I know this is very high level

You should start your own list of KB articles so this could be MKB 001 entry when you do a detailed write up

that said linphone is fairly easy to configure.

using the Lenovo m10 I have the c4 app + linphone all set and working on netplay video storm mobile license for the tablet so I can use it to watch tv too from the sources in my house.  This tablet will be dedicated just to my office.  So only loading those 3 apps.

for $129 I got c4 app, intercom and live tv. Not too bad!  Yes it takes a few seconds to get to the c4 app but if I can save 1,000 and get a tv out of it why not!

I'm curious how this works from a refreshing standpoint.  I know the stand alone app needs to be refreshed every time I open it.  If you leave it open does it stay updated?

send me a PM with your email and I'll send you a video

Have you looked in to powering these tablets using PoE? Using existing CAT6 cabling, it would be cleaner to power these over ethernet. Also would prefer to wall mount in a couple of locations, so would like to find a good flush mounting system.

Also, assuming this are strictly for C4 use, would 16GB be enough?

the doc is micro USB and teh actual tablet has a USB C port.  So any poe solution for USB C would work
