Elvis
My new AV closet will require about a 15' or, more realistically, a 20' run from the TV to the AVR. Is this going to be an issue?

Shouldn´t be an issue even with a good passive HDMI cable. Elvis
0 BuffaloC4
I have a 6x6 Kramer Matrix running 4 x 50ft runs and 2x 75 ft runs. I feel like I may have gotten somewhat lucky with my experience , but I assume you'll get away with a 20 ft run. Many, many, many people will try to influence you to go the balun route. 0 C4 User
I purchased and recently installed a 100 foot Bifale HDMI 2.1 Fiber Optic Cable from AVR to TV. I am now able to set the AppleTV video setting to Dolby Vision and it looks great. The above is my post from a different topic on this forum. I was previously using a high quality passive HDMI 80ft cable and it would not pass Dolby Vision. After installing the above cable, it works great. Although I do not think you need a Fiber Optic cable for 20ft, they are not that expensive and would be very safe, and will easily handle the highest quality video. 0 Köhler Medientechnik
In my experience, the life expency of a fiber hybrid cable is not that good as for a passive cable. There are active curcuits and a media convertor built-in that can break over time. Plus it needs power supply from the sender´s HDMI port (at least the majority of the inexpensive ones) which can cause stability issues. Having said that, for 20ft, i´d go for a passive cable, at around 30ft+, i´d go for hybrid fiber cable. At 60ft+, i´d go for a CAT-transmitter/receiver-combo. 0 Elvis
Thanks. I'll give it a shot with a passive cable. No big loss, I guess if it doesn't work. Köhler Medientechnik
