Chime Doorbell and T4 Reviews?

I have finally received 2 T4s (after many promises that they were 2 weeks away!).  I’m both impressed and underwhelmed.  In summary, definitely a step up on the T3 but not as a big an improvement as I had hoped for.

I have a massive project and two or three of my rooms (heavy on large Experience buttons) are slow to load. On the T3 these could take up to 12 seconds.  On the T4, they take up to 3 seconds (I was hoping for 1 second).

Swiping between rooms is great but there is a noticeable delay (1 second in most cases) before the new room loads (again, bearing in mind that my project is large!).  While this is still noticeable compared to my iPad which is instant, it is not a long enough delay to be annoying (on the T3 it was).  Nor is it long enough to bring up the spinning circle as one waits except on the 2 or 3 really large (graphic heavy) rooms mentioned above.

The camera view seems crisper and so do screensaver photographs.  I am assuming this is real and not just different brightness settings 🙂

These must be a pleasure for the dealer (compared to the T3) as taking them on and off the wall is much much easier.  They are a slick piece of equipment now.

The speakers at the back look impressive so I am expecting better sound quality.  I played an announcement and it sounded good.  I have not tried an intercom call yet.

Annoyingly, I have 2 sets of experience buttons (both ones that I use a lot) which don’t work on the T4.  They just appear as blank squares.  One of these is some of the buttons in the Chowmain Experience Button Suite.  Someone posted this problem in another thread a few weeks ago, so I was not surprised.  I have logged a ticket against this issue.  The other being the EGauge driver from bNet Solutions.  I have emailed the developer and I am hoping this will be an easy fix…

I have a couple of web based apps that run on my system.  On the T3s, these were too slow to be of any practical use.  They are considerably faster on the T4 (2 seconds to load as opposed to 20) and they are quite usable although I suspect that I will still use my iPad much more than the Touchscreen for this sort of thing.

And refreshing navigators is nice and quick on the T4.  It was great on the T3s back in OS3.0.1 I think) when I upgraded to a CA10 but has slowed considerably over the last couple of years. My T4 refreshed in about 10% of the time my T3s are refreshing.  I have also found that in most releases since around OS3.1 the refreshing of navigators sometimes results in one of my T3s hanging.  Early days but the T4 has not hung on me yet.

For anyone else with the problem of certain Experience Buttons not showing on T4s, the 2 mentioned above have been fixed in beta versions of the relevant driver and will, I understand auto update in the near future.

pretty sure this is a T4, seems a somewhat faster than my T3 - but maybe not as fast as my iPad?

That is an accurate assesment.  Now that I’ve had my T4s for a couple of months, my overall view can be summarised as follows:

1. A big improvement on the T3s;

2. If I was buying new Touchscreens, I would rather by a new T4 at full price than pay half price for a T3;

3. I upgraded 2 of my 4 T3s to T4s at my main residence and won’t be doing the other 2.  If I could go back in time, I would only update one of the T3s.

4. I upgraded 2 of my 5 T3s at my holiday home and, again, won’t be doing any more. I would also have only upgraded the one I use the most (main bedroom) with the benefit of hindsight.

5. The fact that the T4 (10 inch is a different shape from the T3 is annoying as in wall mounting needs to be completely reworked).

6. The single biggest plus for me is that Refresh Navigators just works on the T4s.  My projects got to a certain size recently where I have often had to do a hard reboot after refreshing navigators before the T3s work…

Did anyone not notice that during the video then it was just of him using the T4 with his hand/finger it was at a faster speed than normal?!
