Steve Hammond
Hello, I asked my vendor to install the Apple TV 4 driver on my system. He's telling me that since iOS (or tvOS) 13 they had a lot of issues and they just decided to not use that driver and instead rely on IR control. Anyone with experience with this can elaborate what is the problem ? Thank you
kevinmuise
You push the remote buttons and nothing happens on your Apple TV. Your dealer gave you good advice. I use an IP driver available from Intrinsic Development that works well. But don’t fear the IR.
C4 User
I know the intrinsic driver is highly rated but i have the C4 IP driver and no issues. Works great. ekohn00

Time2Jet
Zero issues with several C4 IP driver projects. A lot of the field tech’s complain that they have to have the client’s phone at the time of driver install, so they use intrinsic You can typically fix IP driver issues remotely (sometimes requires the client available), but an IR bud falling off is typically a truckroll. We try to avoid IR when possible. You’ll get the complete opposite responses. But it’s 2021. I personally have a fairly large project with zero IR. I think the intrinsic driver has it’s place. Just prefer IP for the reasons stated.
msgreenf
Here are the #1 issues: 1) logged into different apple IDs on phone and apple tv. All must be the same 2) deleting the apple home app

Was there a time (i.e.: at the beginning of iOS13) where it was more challenging? And you're right for the IR. I have a BlueRay player in my rack that looses its IR all the time. I constantly have to reattached it to the device... Luckily I do not use it very often, but it is still frustrating!

It’s been a very good driver as far as I’m concerned. But note @msgreenf’s comments above. So long as you are aware of those caveats and how to solve, shouldn’t ever have an issue. Hot Melt Glue Gun for the IR buds Best of luck.

Hot glue may be it. And it is not so destructive and easy to remove if need be!
C4 User
Every issue i ever had with the C4 driver was resolved by rebooting the ATV. There was a time maybe a year ago for about a month that i had to reboot a few times a week. It eventually solved itself. I wrote it off to an update conflict but never really knew for sure. Thank you You likely need to go back into the control 4 app and into the settings and repair it with the Apple tv. After it's repaired with the Apple TV you may need to reselect the players from the drop-down in the drivers.
rolldog
Agreed, I had my Apple TV setup using IR for 4 years, but a couple months ago, it was updated to enable Apple TV integration in the Control4 mobile app under settings. Once this is done, a Control4 remote is loaded into HomeKit, or whatever it's called, and an Apple TV Bridge is loaded into your project. Now, I have 1 Apple Bridge and 8 Apple TVs in my project all working perfectly using IP control. Like Mitch mentioned, you must login to each Apple TV using the same Apple ID on every Apple TV you have. Some of my devices are still setup using IR control, but I prefer IP control if it's available. It's possible your installer isn't aware if these recent updates making IP control much better. (I hope I don't jinx myself!)
