AS2
Has anyone tried this player? Apparently it's the best upconverting DVD player around. I'd like to try it on an install if it's that great.
maxspivak
Looks like Stash created a driver for it: http://www.mdaoe.com/smf/index.php?topic=11.0.I'm considering it too, once my theater buildout is complete.
stash
Hey Guys, I do indeed have an oppo DVD player. In general, it is by far the best bang for your buck DVD player out there. I have mine connected to a Pioneer Plasma (5050) and to a Denon 4806. Opinions are subjective, but I think the picture quality through the DVI connection is fantastic. The menus and load times are very fast. I control the unit via IR coming from a C4 Media controller. Please note there are no discreet codes available or planned and there is no serial control. I have experienced a few software based issues twice. Once the lip sync started to get progressively off during a movie which a quick start and stop fixed and on the same DVD it once started to play at roughly 2x speed (including audio). Outside of this DVD I have had zero problems and have played many movies since that time. I would recommend you give it a try. It is software upgradeable via a download from the oppodigital website. Any other questions I can answer???if someone can tell me how to pull the driver off of composer I will gladly post it on this and Brent's forum. c44me
I added the driver, and added the DVD player to the theater, but it is not showing up as a an available video source? Im trying this with the 981HD, but I would think it would work the same? Ideas? thanks!
zipperman19
Did you do the bindings? What you most likely need to do is go to the connections tab, and make sure you connect the HDMI out to the TV/Projector HDMI input.
c44me
thanks I looked and all that are showing is the IR on top pane - no A/V at all
zipperman19
Then the driver needs to be remade. There should be more than just an IR setting. You need an HDMI connection from the dvd player.
c44me
Exactly. I dont understand why the connections arent showing up, since the driver worked for Stash evidently, and someone else on another forum I saw had used it as well.
zipperman19
are there any connections? component video or anything?
c44me
Nothing. I've removed/added the DVD player 3 times, same story. Im thinking maybe try delete/add the driver and see if that helps.
zipperman19
I would just remake it yourself with the right codes. The DVD players now support discrete codes and they're all listed online. Should be fairly simple. http://www.oppodigital.com/dv981hd/download/remote%20key%20code%20dv981hd.xls
c44me
thanks might just do that. was hoping to avoid learning how to make a driver lol.
zipperman19
It's pretty easy to do. Composer guides you through it! I'll make it for you if you can wait until later today.

zipperman19
Give this driver a shot. I didn't have the DVD player to test with. Let me know what features are missing/aren't working.
c44me
will do. I'll report back. thanks!Bingo! I now see connections. I'll let you know if they actually work
c44me
Works flawlessly. Only thing Im fumbling with is where it should be showing up on the remote?I've got the DVR button mapped to 1-press turn on and select the DISH VIP 722, and (for lack of any other idea) I mapped the PIP button to do the same for the DVD Oppo. Only thing is I see the DISH VIP 722 listed under the tv menu on the remote, but the DVD Oppo is nowhere to be found?
zipperman19
Good I'm glad the driver worked. Let me know if you end up needing more functionality. I just used programmed the basic DVD functions, but there were a few shortcuts specific to that remote that I left off. I don't think you'll need them, but you never know. Anyways, the DVD player should show up under "videos"
c44me
Its funny, it actually works better then the IR repeater I had setup before which would miss commands on occasion. I'll see if anything comes up, so far I just tried the basics and all is good.Yes, I thought thats where it was supposed to show also? However, it is not listed. The browse, projector, and receiver are all that are listed?
