Australian HVAC solution

I suspect there may not be too many people that can help me on this one - but any leads on what to look for also welcome.

My Builder is proposing to install a Bonaire P3 30i ducted heater. ( I may increase this to a P4 or P5 for extra features and efficiency)

I'm looking to see if it will integrate with C4

I've discovered on the heaters manufactures website the following document,

http://www.bonaire.com.au/lib/pdf/owners/Home_Automation_5012230A.pdf

which lacks technical detail, but does state the following

Home Automation Requirements

The home automation product must have the ability to provide a voltage free contact.

The ON and OFF functions must be a contact closure for a minimum of 1 second leaving

the contact status as open. This will effectively create the pulse required to turn the

Climate Technologies Touchpad ON or OFF.

Firstly - this is a major manufacturer in Australia - is there a known solution for these heaters or integration module?

If not, what do I need to do to find out to determine if the interface module shown in the pdf will be capable of working with C4 Theromstat.

Tar

cheers

Daniel

You'll be hard pressed to find any specific Aussie HVAC integration into C4.

I'd you do let me know! But the same goes even for Aussie products like cbus. HVAC integration is very tricky

what you have to do is think beyond the square and get the home auto system to control basic on/off relay function via the tstat. At my place I have cbus tstats that switch the basic 240V relays on/off of my hydronic system. But this could be any heating system with 240V power. The tstat controls the basic GPO. It's that simple.

But unfortunately tstat control is not that simple. PHD's have been written on designing tstat control- how long to wait before switching relays, lag time, overshoot, room thermodynamics etc etc. A very complicated formulae is needed to maintain good room temperature. Cbus has this in it's logic. I'm not sure Control4 does. Check this out first before deciding to use C4 thermostats.

Wappinghigh, Thank-you for reconfirming what I suspected. I originally looked closely at cbus also and got told similar stories by a PHD in electronics & home automation - I wonder if we know the same guy in croydon, victoria.

I think I will get the heater to turn on or off with the integration module (even if I have to use the alarm panel to integrate to it)

There are five wires out of the integration module - so I would like to think it does more than just turn on or off. - But the manufacture locks all the decent doco on their website for the installers.

I've done some further research that will only interest Aussies readers, but thought I would close out the post with an answer to my original question and I'm little more optimistic about a solution.

Apparently the Brivis Heating (gas ducted) and cooling systems have a Honeywell integration module. One module is required per zone and these integrate with the control 4 t-stats.

(I have a phone call booked with the Brivis technical specialist next week - if there are any new learnings - I'll post that also)

Advantage Air (reverse cycle) have a RS-232 port and there is a driver which the Control4 Australian distributors wrote.

Both solutions provide most if not all required functionality - other options exist for on/off, but the Bonaire integration module is no longer manufactured and therefore they are not an option at this stage.

Thank-you to Tim at Control4 Australia for his helpful advice.
