jwhitaker@revit
yeah unfortunately not alot to say this year. eragy's new power monitoring app will be cool, but we will have to see! you will be able to read more on that tomorrow at c4 central. don't want to put it all out there at once, trying to space things out a little. Deleted
I have recently installed C4 where the customer wanted a Mode lighting centralised system rather than C4. C4 integrates seamlessly with Mode Evolution and it was pleasure to program it. The beauty of linking to a centralised system is that if the home is sold and the new owner does not want/understand automation then it is simple to switch off C4 and reset the panel to native use. Another plus is that if something goes wrong with the lighting it is the responsibilty of the lighting system installer to fix it.And thirdly, in the case of Mode, the lighting system has been built to specifically control lighting and to this end is usually compatible with all forms of lighting including LEDs.All Control4 has to do is to send a command to switch/dim lights on/off, and because it is bi-directional it can do all the same things we can do with programming. For instance, if there is a spare button on the wall plate, it can be programmed just like a C4 keypad to provide automation, such as switching audio on/off etc.And because it is hardwired there is no problem with RF/Zigbee. I like it.

bhadams
Or a touchpanel...Good rant, but needs more education on the subject...Late response, but I'll clarify. I was responding to 3finger's comments, not gogo's. I've worked for a dealership for crestron and lutron in the past, so I have a pretty good grasp on centralized design. Detractors of this model typically lack education on the subject. Not that it's perfect...

RyanE
I think that the main idea with panelized lighting is that you don't control individual loads, you trigger preset scenes, which you'd probably program on keypads. So you'd have your Night, Party, TV, and whatever scenes, and not have to trigger the individual loads. But what do I know, I have plain-jane Control4 lighting.RyanE
