thegizzard
Ok, maybe not time yet... but would C4 be compatible with this? Would this enable C4 to control devices without IR buds?http://www.engadget.com/2010/12/21/zigbee-finalizes-low-power-rf-standard-for-input-devices-could/
ILoveC4
Interesting to see if that takes off at all...
dogdvr
One of the reasons C4 went to zigbee pro was to match the standards set forth by the zigbee alliance. If the manufacturer uses the HA profile then we will be compatible. (of course drivers still need to be written and only C4 can write them as of now)
thegizzard
Is it correct to assume that a Zigbee replacement for IR would allow 2-way control of devices like TVs? Even if So, wouldn't the future for device control be IP control? I mean few devices talk Zigbee, while many more speak IP. Perhaps perfection would be... all devices have wireless IP connectivity, Ethernet ports for wired IP, IR (for legacy control), Bluetooth (for nincompoops), and Zigbee for all future remotes. henniae
I don't see IR control going away too soon. There are too many IR controlled device in consumer hands. IR control is inexpensive and easy to do. IP and ZigBee control are the nirvana for folks on this list but not everyone in the world wants to integrate their systems. Most people just want to watch TV.
