Remote Control of Streaming Boxes??? (Roku/Nvidia Shield)

Recommended Posts

Is anyone out there able to remotely control their customer's roku or nvidia shields, from their offices, changing settings within these boxes?  We are finding some of the Roku's we have out in the field are reverting to previous settings (No video displays but audio comes through fine), causing customers to become frustrated and of course phone calls to us.

I was wondering if there is some way to group manage Roku devices, like a Mobile Device Manager would be used for computers, to standardize but also take control of the actual unit (and see what is being shown on the screen).

I have looked into this and there may be something of the sort for Nvidia Shields (Vysor or Hexnode MDM).  Just curious if other installers have decided to go this route to avoid broken Roku updates or changes.

An update to what I have found, perhaps this will help someone else looking for a solution to this problem:

Hexnode and Vysor both are not in the Shield Google Play store, and even sideloading Hexnode I could not get it to work properly.  Perhaps needs the device to be rooted which I would prefer not to do.

Using srccpy, I am able to control the Nvidia Shield remotely, and all it needs to be is in developer mode.  I am able to mirror the screen of the Shield to a PC on the network, or even one VPN'ed into the network (we used Wireguard on a Rasberry Pi 400 as a test).  You can even see the video playing on the user's Shield if it is Youtube, Pluto TV, but NOT the major streaming services (probably a drm thing???).  But this gives you a nice way to add apps and change settings to a Nvidia Shield remotely.  Plan on replacing a few Roku's in the field with this solution as it gives us more configurability, is faster at loading apps, and hopefully less downtime.
