AVM-MC1-B Has Mind of its own

I have an AVM-MC!-B controlling a home theater. The only connection between my Panasonic plasma and the Denon 2808ci receiver is an HDMI cable and the IR emitter from the C4 device. Sometimes, and only sometimes, when I first hit the Red 4 Button to turn on the system, the system turns on, but the input on the Plasma changes to "tv" and turns to channel 4, even if the plasma was turned off in HDMI. (There is never a case when the plasma is taken off of HDMI). What I find strange is that it is always channel 4. I thought I inadvertently hit the numeric number 4 on the remote and it changed the plasma thinking I wanted tv, but this is not the case. Any suggestions?
