sfleck
Anyone come up with an elegant solution for the playback of digitally stored movies yet? I would like to be able to backup my DVD's to a network storage device (like a Linksys NSLU2) and using the C4 onscreen interface select and playback chosen movies.so, obviously we will need some playback mechanism like: - PowerDVD or WinDVD or something running from a computer. - the use of a ROKU Photobridge- control of some other application (like MainLobby) thru the use of girder perhaps- maybe even a control of MCE2005 what other solutions can we come up with?i would like the movies to show up just like they do with a Sony 777es on Navigator using the TV interface. i'm sure that will be the tricky part. but you would think it might be possible to use the Composer Media Edition to scan a HD just the same as scanning a 777es.thoughts? Uncle Skippy
Why not tell composer that you are using a sony changer and replace the IR codes with the windows Media Center codes. The only down side is you would have to manually enter the movie info, but that's no big deal.
maxspivak
There Snazio: http://www.snazio.com/Links/Net%20DVD%20Cinema.htmI have it in my bookmarks to investigate at some point -- it was mentione on one forum or another. I wonder if they have an API that you can use to query available content and initiate playback. Then someone could write a driver, probably serial, to communicate w/it. They have an OEM page if someone wants to follow up.
sfleck
have you tried that Reed?how will you get MCE2005 to directly launch the movie from the Control4 movie menu? Or will you just use the "My Movies" option in MCE and select the movie a second time?
Uncle Skippy
I don't have any experience with MCE at all but if you can control it with IR it would be possible with some creative programming wouldn't it?
fischershaw
Check into XBMC. Much more configurable than other devices I have looked into, and cheap. Works nicely for me. Has bugs of course, but is actively being worked on by a large community of developers.
