Ring. You need an input that is an Alexa audio source. Which your denon amp is. The Control4 controller is not

Ok, now I'm slowly starting to understand...still dont get the exact logic behind it but nevertheless;).

So, the only solution here is to directly connect one alexa device (say dot) and C4 amp and program voice scenes, correct?

  2. Streamimg device is C4 controller. Amp is C4 matrix. So, in short, if I'd like to stream some music from Deezer or Tidal and ask Alexa to do it currently it can't since it wont recognize C4 amp audio zones as audio.

If, for example, I'm using Denon amp Alexa will recognize it and Ill be able to stream music (C4->Denon->speakers)

So what I am asking is if your skill will enable Alexa to recognize C4 amp as such and be able to start streaming music from c4.

I hope we understand each other now:)

With our skill (SimpleC4), you would control the c4 matrix amp as follows:

    • "Alexa, set Listen to Pandora" (just like the Listen button, substitute Pandora for your C4 audio source names)
    • "Alexa, turn off tv" (turn off all the AV the room)
    • "Alexa, volume up tv" (turn up room volume)
    • "Alexa, set volume to 25%" (level or delta control)
    • "Alexa, mute the tv" (mute the room)

In our skill, all the AV in the room is controlled as a TV device.  Voice volume control maps to the room volume setting.

You might be right that you can't control the volume on the TV device in the original C4 driver.  It depends on how it is written.  It does definitely work on ours.

So, just to be sure, with your skill Alexa actually recognize C4 matrix audi zones as audio devices and can stream to them? Native C4 skill doesn't, it recognize them as TV and if you try to stream music to them (Alexa, play "smth" on TV, Alexa play "smth" on whatever you have renamed it to, Alexa play music in the bedroom (if you added this device in the bedroom group) it doesn't work, Alexa says something like "I didn't find anything called "name that you have set" that can play music".)

As far as I know the only way to actually make Alexa stream music to C4 matrix zones it o connect one alexa dot to c4 matrix amp and stream music through it...your skill actually works without that?

    Thanks

That's the thing with HA - every 5-10 years almost everything will become obsolete and have to be replaced.  My system has been in place for about 12 years and the main things untouched from day one are light switches and a C4 T-Stat.  Stuff like remotes, controllers, etc needs to be replaced every once in a while, but it sounds like you may not be using C4 for AV.

I am. All AV is controlled by c4

  5. Its on 2.10. The thing is, my house was built in 2014 as state of the art "future house" with integrated smarthome functionalities (all devices, from lights, windows, blinds, doors, alarms, cameras to heating and cooling are controled by C4). Total cost was somewhere around 30k. And now, 5 years later a bunch of stuff (touchscreens, doorstation, remotes...) are so outdated that they need to be replaced (which is again rather expensive) or I can opt for cheaper alternatives (like ring cameras and doorbells) which still work quite nicely through alexa-C4 integration...

Sometimes I've had to bump a post to get some additional attention, and this has sometimes yielded results.

In my case, unmounting my surface mount DS2-Mini only required the fine Allen wrench to get the cover off, and regular screwdrivers to remove from the mount.  If you have the tools, you could at least check the status of your ethernet cable.

You didn't indicate when your Dealer set this up, but if basic functionality like Intercom wasn't set up properly, with some glitch in the Video Quality, it would seem that they would be obliged to fix it, with no additional expense.  If that's not an option for whatever reason, finding a new Dealer, or even using one of the Online guys here who can fix things remotely, might be worth exploring.

I have checked the ethernet cable and everything seems fine. I'm getting tired of this, also IMO the whole C4 doorstation functionality is just to complicated and rigid, if it doesnt work you dont really now why and sometimes even the delaer can't help (although he will charge for the help...). IDK, compared to some other doorbells this just seems a very expensive solution which don't really give you nothing special...

Since I have an Echo show in my kitchen, echo spot in the bedroom, echo show 8 in the office, echo show and 2 fire HD tablets mounted in hallways I am more and more inclined to replace the C4 doorbell with Ring elite. It has more functionalities, is cheaper and will integrate into my system better.

All this in a house where I have started with everything controlled by C4 (from all lights, blinds, windows, alarm, audio and video zones,...almost 30k worth of equipment). A pity really...

I use an Alexa in each room for voice control.  In some rooms that don't have centralized audio, that alexa also provides music.  For the centralized zone, I use a single Fire stick in the rack.

For centralized zones, I use "Set listen to fire stick"  and then "play Imagine Dragons on Pandora on Fire stick".      (need to include "on fire stick" so Alexa knows not to play on THIS alexa)

Decentralized zones is just "play Imagine Dragons on Pandora"     (plays on local alexa device using it's speaker)

Our driver & skill gives you the "Set watch to source"  and "Set listen to source"  commands.  Easy to use for people familiar with C4 remotes, since the source names are the same as what they see on the remote when they push those same buttons.

Oh, ok, that doesn't solve my problems then:/

The problem I have is that Alexa cant recognize and therefore control C4 matrix amp (audio zones are detected as a TV) so I can't say, for example, "Alexa, play music in the bedroom" and Alexa will command C4 to play it.

  8. Hi,

is there a way to list all programs in Composer HE? Currently, if you have a large project with 8 rooms and 100 devices that means thousands of potential "whens" and tons of small programs. Is it possible to list them all, just to identify the bad ones, optimise the system and maybe fund potential problems? Or is the only option to just go through all devices and all states?

    Thanks!

There are many ways to do this using macros and then "turn on macro_name".  You might also be able to set default channels/stations for audio sources in C4.

However, the best way in my opinion is with two voice commands:

"Set Listen to Pandora"            (tells c4 to select pandora source)

"Play X on Pandora"          (tells Alexa that you are streaming audio, and enables that voice interface for control)

then you have all the normal alexa voice commands available for audio

when you are done, then "turn off tv" would do execute the "Room OFF" c4 command.    You could also just tell Alexa to "stop, shut up, be quiet, etc" and that would also stop your audio (C4 zone would remain selecting pandora source though).

    Hi,

If I understand you correctly this could solve the problem of C4 audio zones showing as TVs by Alexa and therefore not able to stream music? For now the only workaround I know is to have a dedicated alexa device in the server rack (lets call it Zone) connected to c4 amp and then create voice scene that would turn this particular zone on and set is as destination (so for example turn on bedroom) and then use the command "alexa, play "smth" on the zone". Rack alexa would then stream the music to the c4 amp which would play it in the bedroom.

With your drivers the need for that separate alexa is eliminated since you would group every audio zone to the right room and Alexa would now which zone to select?

Looks like interference to me. Is it running parallel to any high voltage? Did you use shielded cable?

To be honest IDK, this was installed by the C4 dealer. The most I can do is to unmount the doorbell (guess I need a torax screwdriver?) and test the cable.

This still doesnt explain why the picture is acceptable when using the touchscreen. Bandwith, more specifically upload speed could be the reason (since I'm looking at the video from the phone) but I'm on fiber so I find it really hard to believe...

Also, no one knows if there is an actual program command that triggers intercom call to the phone or should intercom anywhere do that automatically?

That screen capture with the black splotches is really strange - I've never seen anything like that on mine.  Other than a possible hardware problem, or bandwidth issues, I don't have a clue what would cause that.

As for programming for the Intercom, I'm still pretty much a novice myself, with only about 5 months or so since my system was installed.  The Dealer I work for did the initial setup, and when I look through it, I don't see any explicit programming as such to activate the Intercom associated with pressing the DS2 call button.  It does trigger an announcement, and I added programming to send a snapshot email, but there's nothing there about Intercom.

I do see reference to my email address, and my wife's, in the Communications Agent, under the Advanced Tab.  But bottom line, I'm not seeing exactly where the Intercom function is otherwise defined - perhaps it occurs when the App is installed.  But I don't see programming to initiate a call, as your screen capture shows.  I'm not saying what you have is wrong, just that I don't see corresponding programming in mine.

You might need to start a post on that specific topic to get the attention of the more experienced guys here, who should be able to address this pretty easily.

Thanks for answers...I did start a post but sadly no one answered me 😕

  12. Hi

Thanks for the answer, sorry to hear you are still having problems with the DS:(.

As for picture quality, its bad, low res and as said, with black marks if I'm calling the DS from my phone. If I'm calling it from touchscreen its usually without black spots (but still low res).

    Picture on the phone:

    Picture on the touchscreen:

AS for intercom function, I have the 4Sight license (otherwise I believe I wouldn't be even able to call the DS from my phone) so I guess its something with the programming? Below is the screen from composer and I guess I should be able to choose my phone in the intercom section? Or should I somehow create a group with my phone in it (I've tried doing that through touchscreen but I guess I'm not doing it right)?

  13. Hi,

did you manage to solve the issue? I have the exact same one, DS2 connected through POE and regularly getting a "poor connection" message. The quality of the picture is really bad, often there are black marks/missing spots all over it and also, I can't get the DS2 to call my phone through intercom anywhere...I'm seriously thinking of just scrapping everything and buying ring doorbell

Thanks, any advice would be much appreciated:)!

  14. Hello,

running EA-5 on 2.10.6 and with DS2, connected through POE I can't get the DS to call my phone. I can program announcements when someone pres the doorbell button and they work. I can also program the C4 that whenever the doorbell is pressed there is a video connection established with one of the touchscreens and that also works. I can also call my DS through my phone. But I can't get the DS to call my phone via IA app...is there a simple solution I'm missing or does anyone know what to do? Its driving me crazy and I'm seriously planning to scrap the whole thing and just get the Ring doorbell...My line of work requires that I'm able to reply delivery guys whenever they deliver the package and right now I can't do that...

Thanks in advance and any help, really appreciate it

I just added an echo Dot to my rack and it's awesome. I just tell  Alexa to turn on my speakers in room X and then I ask Alexa to play any music I want on my rack dot.  It’s amazing and simple without having to create different scenes for different playlists or artists.

There is a voice scene driver, where you create a phrase then program it to do whatever you want.  You'd have to create one for every station, playlist, etc you want to be able to turn on in the living room then program it to actually turn on that music.

OK, so I guess my only realistic option is one dedicated dot in the rack...gonna try this one. Just a quick question...using this solution, is it possible to say, f.e. Alexa, play music in the living room, or do I have to tell her first to turn on the speakers there and then to play music?

So, do I need a dealer to add this rack dot to the system (most probably)? Since he is pretty unresponsive, do you happen to know anyone who might help remotely?

    Thanks guys:)
