You don't loose it, it won't work right.

Currently the output of the Sonos is fixed and you adjust volume with the receiver(control4), for music connect Sonos needs to be variable output and the receiver fixed and adjust volume with the Sonos app.

If you don't involve your dealer, setup the receiver's music connect; and then use Control4 to select Sonos like you do now, you'll have no volume adjustment via Control4 remote, only the Sonos app. To have both, you have to remove Sonos from the theater room, create a new room, put in a sonos player, set it as the endpoints. And select that room instead of the theater to have control of it from Control4.

If you're going to do it yourself, use a different input on the receiver than you do know to connect the Sonos to if possible. Change it to variable and setup music connect. If you don't like the result you can put it back, and if you do like it that way, and someone tries to use the Control4 remote still, it'll just go to an empty input safely.

RAV - I’ve made some progress.  I setup up the system with Optical instead instead of the the RCA connection that was originally done.   Here are the two issues I’m contending with after setting it up.

    1) volume - When I’m watching TV and switch to Sonos (via Sonos app), the volume on control4 and Sonos are both in control at the same time.  I set up Sony music connect at a preset volume of -10.0 dB.  When system is off and I power the receiver via Sonos app, I don’t have that issue.

    2) powering off receiver - when I’m finished listening to Sonos the receiver does not power off.  How can I shut down the receiver when I’m done listening to Sonos.

Bonus - not sure why, but the sounds quality is way better with this revised setup.

    i appreciate a your help!

  2. Hello - I hope someone can help me with an alternative for my Sonos setup.

    System Overview:

I have a EA3 controller that works with with my Sony 5000ES receiver.  The system is in the basement away from my living room 5.1 setup.  Control4 manages the receiver, Sonos, Roku, Oppo, xBox and a DoorBird.  I gave up connecting Oppo, XBox and DoorBird after multiple attempts.  This might be a topic for another thread.  This was a new build about 2 years ago and the dealer did all wiring of house and involved from the beginning.

    Sonos Overview:

Sonos has really been the major disappointment in my system and looking for help.

If I want to listen to Sonos on my main system in living room I use the following steps:

    1. Turn on control4 and select Sonos.
    2. Start a Sonos favorite station.
    3. Then I go into my Sonos app and add the other Sonos zones to my main room so I can select other music options.
    4. I still have to control volume for main room from control4 as the dealer had the Sonos volume fixed
    5. So it’s quite a process to get everything up and running, additionally controlling volume from two places on multiple zones is frustrating

    Potential Sonos Fix:

I’ve learned my Sony STR-ZA5000ES receiver has music connect option.  I could link my Sonos connect to receiver via optical and provide the MAC address.  This option sounds like i could break free from control4 and manage music everywhere via Sonos app.  My dealer said this wouldn’t work or cause issues in my system?  Looking for a second opinion?  I’m afraid to try it on my own as I could cause issues with control4 and receiver, requiring another service call.  I appreciate any advice.
