  1. Thank you for the feedback. frustrating as i boight Like 8 new Sony TV’s last June thinking Sony had the best integration. That was a 8k mistake
  2. Background on my equipment: 1) using Xantech XT-CAT-ARC-KIT Audio over CAT cable with Built-In DAC 2) distributed video - Zuum H10X10 HDMI 10x10 4Kx2K Matrix Switcher with Full 3D Support 3) Control4 C4-EA5 4) All TV's - Sony XBR65X800H in all rooms (just different sizes) bought in early 2021 I bought all new TV's, sony TV's to make sure we could use IP as i didnt want to be forced to use IR. We are having issues, random issues, and my dealer that i use is wanting to switch over to IR to remove the issues. He said he was having issues with IP and now all his clients are on IR. He is amazing and very responsitive (talks to me anytime of night when i have questions - very good). This is my last ditch effort in hopes that someone else knows what is going on with the sony tv's. as my IP works well for everything else. cameras, satellite dish cable, audio, lights...etc.... Issues i am having (these are random issues, they dont happen everyday. i would say happens every other day but when it happens it lasts for a hour). My dealer says since everythign on IP is working beside the sony tv's that he believes there is a random issue happenign with sony tv's. again this is my last ditch effort to get ideas before having to go to IR. Random list of issues: 1) If we use the smart apps on the TV (using control4) and turn the tv off. then turn the tv back on the next day or a different time in cable mode the music/sound will come out of my surround sound in cable mode but the TV is stuck in TV mode. It stays this way for 30 minutes - 2 hours and then randomly will start working if we mess with it enough. -- We are buying a Apple TV. My dealer is going to install it free of charge he says he can disable the TV option in control4 and only use apple TV so we dont run into the smart TV issue again. -- this doesnt happen in all rooms at the same tv. for example it could happen in the living room, but the master bedroom works fine at that exact time. then the next time it could happen in the master bedroom and the living room would work fine. 2) The TV sometimes will not turn on when we command it to turn on. the only random way to fix this is to unplug it from the wall and replug it in. The issue with doing this is some of my TV's are very tight on the wall and its hard to get to the power cord so it can be a pain. 3) again like number 1 above - what is displaying on the tv (cable or smart tv mode) the audio will be the opposite. it is really frustrating. If its in smart TV mode it can be really difficult to get it out of that mode. sometimes the TV doesnt respond at all. 4) sometimes the TV will not turn on, but the sound will come on through the surround sound. so if i click cable tv living room. living room speakers come on but tv stays off. My dealer believes somethign must be going on with Sony. is there a simple fix for these issues? i really dont want to have to go to IR but these issues are so frustrating as if it happens right when the ball game seems to be come on or happens everytime my wife uses the TV and she gets frustrated.
  3. this is why i love my dealer because he is comfortable with questions and answering them really quickly. This is some of his feedback. 1) he agreed the control4 doorbell is better but did the ring doorbell to save on cost. he said the control4 doorbell added feature will show video on the touchscreens. since i only have 3 he said it wouldnt provide a ton more value - my question here is would it show up on my TV's? if so maybe that is enough value.... 2) this is what he said about the ZUUM Cameras. "I have used Hikvision, Luma, and LTS and I like the integration with ZUUM a lot better. ZUUM is a smaller company but they focus on manufacturing equipment that caters to the top of the line integration companies like control 4, savant, Crestron etc." 3) this is what he said about the CA1 "These dimmers are keypadsand are being powered by RS-485 and they do not broadcast ZigBee (Which Is what you need for the remotes to work). If you decided to upgrade your remotes to the new ones then those work off of WiFi." 4) on the Zuum 10x10 matrix. ". Again this was due to the budget we had but I have sold plenty of these since they have drivers for control 4. I am very comfortable with ZUUM and fixing to swap my cameras out to ZUUM."
  4. when you say downmixing im asuming you mean one TV is 4k and one TV for example is 8k? my understanding of this is downgrades everything to 4K. which i think im ok with. i dont see a scneario where 8k is really important to me. As well, the 10x10 Zuum video matrix doesnt have 2.1 capability.
  5. We looked at removing video distribution but i wouldnt be saving a ton of money so i figured its worth the small added cost. The Zuum 10x10 is only $3,500 so i would only be saving around $1,000 or less and I think the added value a distribution can bring from synching TV's (walk in one room and into another, music synchs well and video synch's well), to adding rukus. am i under looking or overlooking something here? Maybe the Zuum 10x10 is not good? as i know a normal control4 10x10 is like 2-3x the cost. i would agree in that scenario there is no way i would do distributed video.
  6. Thank you for all the feedback!! i have response/questions below. 3. Why Zuum cameras ? I'd go with Hikvision, others here like Luma (owned by Snap AV/Control4), or even Unifi Protect if you use Unifi network gear. Control4 integration of cameras is a bit of a weak spot generally, but you need to make sure that those Zuum cameras are capable of giving you the right combination of H264 and MJPEG main stream/substream. If you aren't careful, you might find that what works for your NVR doesn't work for your T4 touchscreen. Looking at the tech specs of the camera you quoted it seems OK, but it's worth going over it carefully with your dealer. By the way - those cameras are only 4MP, not 8MP, so you won't be using the full 4K capability of your NVR. Also, the NVR doesn't look like it can handle line crossing - but the cameras can. Line crossing and intrusion is usually a better way of triggering snapshot notifications then old fashioned motion detection. Small details, but worth investigating now. I have no attachment to Zuum its what my installer had on the quote. 4. If you are using Control4 lighting, you probably don't have to worry about putting additional controllers in to strengthen the Zigbee network. Your light switches will that job for you. The EA-1, (not the CA-1) is useful behind TV's if you like the on-screen navigator. However, most people find that they never use it. So I don’t need a CA1? 5. Have you thought about how you are going to take care of music ? The EA-5 can give you five separate audio streams, and you can use TIDAL/Spotify etc as music services to distribute via your amp/matrix setup. Lots of people like Sonos for music, but increasingly I'm seeing people ditch Sonos for the native C4 audio as it integrates a bit better. I guess I am confused on this? If I only need 5 audio streams am I good with just the EA-5? Or do I need to add something? 7. Why Zuum for AV matrix ? Not to say don't do it, but it's not that common. I'd get feedback from others on the quality, and the driver. It's a vital part of your setup. It’s a 10x10 matrix and the Zuum matrix is less than $4,000 whereas the other matrix’s he quoted was really expensive. We do have 10 TV’s that need to be connected. Will it not work?
  7. I have a large house with the possible buildout for 10 total TV's. We decided to go distributed video as seeing the security cameras from any TV was important to my wife. I have two main questions i am trying to get my head wrapped around listed below. As well a list of what my installer plans to install once my home build is complete (house should be done and ready for move in by May 1st, i have put a down payment on all equipment below to get things ordered, however my installer is flexible to adjustments if for some reason the forum thinks something is off below). Two Main Questions: 1) My wife and I do not watch DVD's however i have 2 kids under 5 years old that watch DVD/Blue rays on occasion (Disney movies). i would prefer to run a DVD/blue ray player through my distributed video but how do i actually control the DVD through control 4? also, do i have to go inside the closet were the AV rack will be to swap DVD's every time, or is there a system were i can either rip or load blue rays and I cant tell the control4 system what movie to watch through the remote? 2) I am not a big gamer, but if i do ever decide to get something like a PS4 or PS5 ideally i still want this situated in the rack. is that even possible? how would the controller reach? My Equipment I have a deposit on, would love feedback below if anything should be added/modified. Random items 1) Door Bell - Ring Doorbell Po 2) Thermostats - EcoBee 4) remotes: SR260RSK. might upgrade to NEO on a couple of the remotes 6) In Wall touch screen – C4-10” 7) Panelized Lighting control. using keypads, dimmers, auxillary keypads, switches, wireless keypad dimmer The Rack 1) Omni Mount RE42 2) Cyber Power 20 am rack UPS 2000VA 3) Panamax M4315-Pro Controller’s: 1) EA-5 2) Control4 CA1 - not sure the point of this one other than the installer said with some of my lighting you will need this. He explained it as some type of extender for Zigbee? Video 1) Zuum H10x10 4kx2k Matrix Switcher with full 3D support Audio 1) Trian TS-AMS24 matrix 2) Triad TS-PAMP8-100 amplifier 3) Triad TS-Pamp4-100 amplifier 4) All In Ceiling Speakers - Elura S8 blue label 8" in ceiling 5) Living room surround sound speakers – 5 total Elura 8” blue label, Origin Acoustics 10” sub 6) Theatre room: a total of seven Elura S6.5” in wall speaker blue label, and Elura Tri-Subr10 sub 800w peak 7) We are still working through the AV receivers for theatre room and living room. We are trying to use some of my old equipment, however its in storage and I need to get model numbers. Don’t need feedback yet on this. Camera’s 1) Equipment: Zuum LSNVR16CH-4k with 2TB hard drive 2) Cameras: Zuum LSE4MPS3 IP cameras WIFI 1) LUXUL ABR-4500 Router 2) LUXUL AGS-1024 24 port switch 3) Luxul AMS-1208P 12 port managed switch 4) Luxul XWC-1000 wireless controller 5) Wireless Access Points: Luxul XAP-810
  8. I think i have decided to go the Ecobee right for looks and alittle cost savings. I dont need alot of automation in my air conditioning i mainly wanted to have 1 control4 app to control everything. if it goes down a couple times a year i can go to control it from the wall mount. thank you everyone for the feedback.
  9. if this helps - 1) we are using 3 RUUD hvac systems that have 2 speeds. low and high. 2) We have fresh air intake (dampners) but decided to go with the "old school" tried and true manual dampers vs. automatic dampners as my father in law has had alot of issues with automatic dampners getting locked closed (and he is installing the system). we are doing spray foam insulation. 3 systems, we went with 3 systems to act as zoning naturally as opposed to doing actual zoning with bigger AC units. we decided to go with 3 smaller units and isolate them in certain parts of the house. example: 1 unit supplies master area only 1 unit supplies all the living/kitchen/office areas...ect... and 1 supplies the spare bedroom and my 2 daughters bedrooms. i have tall celiings in living so it allows me to keep the living AC at a more cost effective temperature at night when we are sleeping. 1 story house.
  10. Building a new home that will have 3 air conditioners. Currently my HVAC team is installing HVAC this week and tomorrow they will need to know information about thermostats. I purposely did not have them include a thermostat in their price so i can have flexibility to decide what i want: Deciding between Nest, Ecobee, and Control4. They all will have to communicate with the control4 system. Care less about having automatic programs (atleast i dont care today, but maybe in the future i might decide its cool) but i care more about not having to use a seperate APP and be able to use my control4 system. 1) Should i have them run wire to a home run location and put the termostat near my AV equipment, then have low voltage run temperature sensors strategic placed? 2) Should i have HVAC instead run thermostats to the normal location and not do the temperature sensors that are seperate? 3) My low voltage guy is pushing control4 thermostat. I dont like the looks of the thermostat so if i go that route i am more inclined to put it in the AV area and do seperate temperature sensors. control4 thermostat is also more expensive at 300+ per unit. Which direction should i go based on yoru answers for 1 and 2? Nest, Ecobee, or control4 thermostats? (Nest and Ecobee we like the looks so we would be ok with those mounted on the wall somewhere)
  11. I am building a new home and doing alot of control4 automation (lighting, TV...ect..) I have shy'd away from automatic shades because of the cost. My deal only does Lutron currently as they use to do Qmotion but got alot of complaints due to how loud the motor was so they stopped doing Qmotion. He will install anything i will just have to buy the shades seperately. Currently he is thinking it will be $900-$1,200 per shade (he is firming up numbers for me. I do think now that i need automatic shades as how we design the porch of our home we have opened area with very high ceilings and i have sunshine coming in through my middle set of windows which around about 10' off the ground so their is no other logical option aside from Curtains and a 15' curtin will be really expensive to. Question here - does that pricing seem about right? how much more aggressive does it get on pricing if i went with a Qmotion? is there another good option? If i could get to $600/window for the red circled windows i would do this i think - given that pricepoint what are the options? Do i pre-wire for this or go battery? (pre-wire will start in about 2 weeks) I definitely do not want a inferior product as this is a expensive house, but i also cannot spend $1k per window as if i do this i would have about 10 windows total i would do. the photo - in red is my problematic window with alot of sun coming into the living room. If i did this i would also do the blue windows which are my master bedroom windows that also face the direction that the sun drops in the evening.
