I sort of figured it would be. 😄

I would say in your case, replacing the lights (should you care to have control at all) would be a better fit.

Replace the lights? Like bulbs? 1. I don't want wifi-only devices. And 2. My primary room that I want the automation uses LED disc lights that are hardwired. :) So automation dimmer switches are my primary option. I just tried another switch and it's ramp up/down for on/off is terrible. Not that is the only thing I care about. I don't want to get into the Phillips Hue category of automation.

Maybe I wasn't clear - the only thing that can directly talk to C4 lighting, is a C4 controller. Technically, someone could get approval from C4 to include their stack, or someone could try and reverse engineer it, but I know of no such device.

It's going to depend on the last used software, but the cheapest safe choice would be a second-hand HC800 (just make sure it's a "bl-1" so you can use the app), though if all you do is lighting, you may be able to get away with an HC-250 (bl-1 again) running the older operating system. Those last ones should come dirt cheap as they can't run on the latest OS

But also note that C4 is a dealer required system (though there are several on here that can do it remotely)

Thank you for all the information. "Dealer required" is all I need to know now. I had no idea. And that does not appeal to me. Thanks again. I hope others in search of this information will benefit from this thread. Help on Amazon did not reveal any of this information.

Ultimately, a Control4 system has more value to a home than DIY Zigbee switches.  Just my 2 cents.  And I say that as someone who is moving to Control4 from a DIY system.  The Control4 system will be more reliable and integrate just as well with Alexa.

Not asking for pricing. But what is generally the lowest cost bare minimum SmartHub for Zigbee Pro and specifically the C4-dim1-z-x ? Which another user hear mentioned it has it's own stack of Zigbee Pro.

Might be more cost efficient and easier to set up a small Control4 system just for lighting, no?  Then you could integrate Alexa with that and expand the control4 later if you liked it.

Possibly... I only have 6 of these switches. And only 3 of them do I use daily. But I am not a fan of a mixed setup if I can avoid it.

C4 uses zigbee pro so you have to use a c4 controllers mesh to set up the device. Once it is programmed in c4 you can link to alexa but not native.

Thanks for the reply. I will look into selling these switches and getting regular Zigbee switches. I didn't know that Zigbee Pro switches were not backwards compatible with Zigbee hubs. That is good to know.

  6. I have multiple Control4 C4-dim1-z-x dimmer switches around my house. So I bought an Amazon Echo 4th Gen because it shows that it can be used as a Zigbee smarthub controller. But Alexa never finds the switch I am testing with that I left the mesh and it is now solid green top/bottom LEDs.

Does anyone know how to get the Amazon Echo Zigbee controller to find the switch? I can't find directions anywhere.
