  1. I recently upgraded to a 16 channel Luma NVR from an 8 channel.  How do I go about erasing the footage that's already on the 8 channel?  Would I just take the harddrive out?  Or is there a way to factory reset the device and wipe the drive?

I have a Sonos setup without a C4 matrix, and I have always wondered how you play music from the Sonos app in this alternative setup using a matrix.

Ordinarily, in the Sonos app, one chooses a room and then plays.  In this case, how would you select the right Port in the app? Is the idea that each member of the household has his/her own Port, and instead of choosing a "room" in the Sonos app, you choose your name?

Good question...I'd be curious to know about this as well.  I was only looking at this from the C4 side, which seems easy enough - it looks like you would just hit Listen in the appropriate room and the matrix amp would use the Port as the input.  But what happens if you use the Sonos app?  Does it just play all the speakers the amp is connected to?  There's not a way for the Port to know that it's connected to a matrix amp so it wouldn't know which room to turn on.  Right?

use airplay or get sonos ports. it will do all of the above and save you some money.

the favorites update from the sonos players so it should be fairly instantaneous. You can use favorites through programming on your keypads still. We talk about sonos control inside control4 in our composer training course. this video is even on youtube for free.

Using Ports is an interesting idea.  I would need one Port per stream though, correct?  If I wanted to play music in the office and my kids wanted to play something else in the kitchen, I'd need 2 Ports, right?  But if I wanted to play a single source in all zones, that's just 1 Port, correct?

The other thing is that the 4 zone matrix amp only has 2 digital inputs and 4 analog inputs.  So if I got 4 Ports, two would be digital and two would be analog right?  Probably wouldn't hear a difference, but is that correct?  I assume you would program the system to use digital input 1 for the first stream, digital input 2 for the second stream, analog input 3 for the next, etc?

  4. Hello all,

I'm trying to make a decision on whether or not to keep my Matrix Amp or switch to Sonos Amps.  I currently have 4 zones: Exercise, Office, Kitchen, Bedroom.  Control4 audio works well enough, but there are a few annoyances that I think switching to Sonos will iron out.

    • Control4 doesn't support Apple Music while Sonos does.  Yes, I know I can Airplay, but I'd rather just hit a button on a keypad and play something than fiddle with an app.
    • Control4 only has Spotify Connect while there is native Spotify integration with Sonos.
      • Related to this, I don't like how I have to use the Spotify app for this, and then maybe switch to the Control4 app for other sources.  I'd rather just have everything under the Sonos app
    • I am limited to a few streams with Control4, while I can play more streams with Sonos.  Not a huge deal since I'm unlikely to play more than 3 streams anyway.

I am aware that I would only be able to integrate Favorites into Control4, but that's fine with me, since I usually start music through a keypad or touchscreen button anyway.  Other than the current lack of availability of Sonos Amps and the large cost, are there any other downsides to switching?

One question I do have is if Control4 automatically updates the Favorites that I add in Sonos.  That is, if I add or delete a favorite station/playlist in Sonos, will that be reflected in Control4 right away?

Another question would be how Control4 manages different accounts.  How do I add my Sonos Apple Music playlists as well as my wife's?

    Looking forward to everyone's input!
