Controlling new TV through CAT5

Recommended Posts

I set up a new TV in a room that has CAT5 (and audio cables) pushed through to it, but no IR cable. I would like for it to be able to be controlled by the C4, but it's not a TV that will be used often so I want to keep it as simple/cheap/easy as possible..

I imagine there has to be some kind of product that converts IR-->cat5-->IR? I'm open to other solutions as well.

Advice?

What model TV is it? Most of the newer TVs can be controlled over the network, wired or even wireless.

Vizio 80 inch from about 3-5 years ago. It's a smart tv but probably one of the earlier adopters.

They do make cat5 to IR adapters but the quickest and least expensive way is to just cut and IR flasher wire and splice it onto the cat5 at both ends. You only need 2 of the 8 wires in the cat5.

Why didn't I think of that! So simple! My inexperience is showing.

Thank you, I appreciate it.
