HDMI 1 Cat Baluns

Looking for ideas ...

I'm in the process of testing the new snap hdmi matrix switch. At first blush it was pretty much plug and play. However, come night fall I'm finding the dimmer/recessed can lights are causing interference that causes the signal to drop out to a black screen. The dimmer in question is part of a 3 gang jbox all running off the same circuit.

I'm suspecting a ground issue or perhaps a wiring issue (reversed polarity in one of the can lights that the dimmer in question is controlling?).

I have not tried ground lifting the TV yet.

Details follow - If anyone has any ideas or suggestions let'm fly ....

Thanks in advance !

In the rack all connected with HDMI -

Moto STB

Moto DVR

Dune

Snap HDMI Matrix

All on APC UPS

Test Room

4 Recessed Incandescent Can Lights

3 gang switch (Gang 1 - Dimmer: the above 4 light cans, Gang 2 - Switch: Cieling Fan, Gang 3 - Dimmer: 2 recessed cans)

Pani Plasma - With 3 prong blug

Snap Powered One Cat Balun (two prong plug) - Connected via Cat5E (inwall)

Test 1

1080P Video Passes Fine

Gang 1 - Dimmer operation causes black out for A/V

Test 2

Snap Powered One Cat Balun - Connected via pre-terminated Cat6 temp run

1080P Video Passes Fine

Gang 1 - Dimmer operation causes black out for A/V

Test 3

Snap Powered One Cat Balun - Connected via pre-terminated Cat6 temp run

Powered Balun from another circuit

1080P Video Passes Fine

Gang 1 - Dimmer operation causes black out for A/V

Test 4

Snap Powered One Cat Balun - Connected via pre-terminated Cat6 temp run

Removed 2 of 4 incandescent floods

1080P Video Passes Fine

Gang 1 - Dimmer operation causes flicker of A/V at power on

Test 5

Theorizing that perhaps this was load related:

Snap Powered One Cat Balun - Connected via pre-terminated Cat6 temp run

Replaced 4 incandescent floods with Cree 18w LED flood replacements

1080P Video Passes Fine

Gang 1 - Dimmer operation 95% of the time a/v passes fine. The other 5% - very intermittent drops when operating the dimmer ramp.

Test 6

Moved Balun and another TV to new location that had recessed incandescent floods and C4 dimmer.

Snap Powered One Cat Balun - Connected via Cat5E (in wall)

1080P Video Passes Fine

Dimmer operation in new location has no effect on A/V.

great test results. I've noticed that when i've had black outs on HDMI extenders, Equalizers don't seem to make a difference, but when experiencing other signal issues the HDMI EQ seems to clean it up. I'm wondering if an EQ would help your situation out.
