4" Mini Touch Screen failed software upgrade

Recommended Posts

I have a 4" wifi mini touch ver 1.2.4.48 that I attempt to upgrade to 1.7 - the upgrade stalled mid way with this error

Dec 12 20:19:25 - Downloading Watchdog Timer Control Program

Dec 12 20:19:25 - Command finished with return code (1): /usr/bin/wget -P /var/cache/upman/ http://192.168.0.13/minicontroller/watchdogd_1.6.0.1_arm.deb

Dec 12 20:19:25 - Process return code is 1

Dec 12 20:19:25 - Downloading Package watchdogd Failed, attempt 1 of 3

Now the device is stuck in a perpetual "Updating ... Please Wait" White Screen - I can ping it , telnet to it, but navigator and control port are both in an offline state. The device can be identified, but will not show up in System Manager.

I attempted to completely reinstall with a USB stick through the HTC Controller - back to version 1.3.2.230 but it fails quickly stating that there is a download package failure. I understand that the 1.2.4.48 ver of MT does not support bootable USB directly on the device.

Any recommendations on how to wipe and replace the MT back to a bootable OS ?

PS .. my dealer was Magnolia and they are no longer supporting C4 for me .. I cannot even find anyone who knows what they set the telnet password to so I am not able to work at the OS level to manually upload packages.

Thanks for any advice !

Typically, if you leave Update Manager trying to update the device, it should succeed eventually, but going from a 1.2.x system to a 1.3.x system, I'm not sure if that's the case. The 1.2.x to 1.3 update is not one I would suggest a non-dealer try.

Unfortunately, as you're not a dealer, you can't call Control4's tech support line.

You may have to 'get a dealer' to get it fixed.

thanks Ryan,

Update Manager fails with an explict error stating that it cannot continue.

Can I use RestoreUSB Stick to recover the device ?

How long did you let it run to try the update?

I'd give it overnight, see if it can make it work before trying something manual.

I think your assessment was right, I don't think you can do the USB Restore on devices running 1.2.x software.

Is the MTS flash embedded in the motherboard? I've successfully recovered 1.2 10.5 panels (no USB boot) by mounting the SD card directly on Ubuntu and going manually through the install script process.

The update fails within about 15 minutes with a specific error message, stating that the device is waiting for the previous update to complete.

Nothing is ever written to the update logs for the MT since the failure.

Part of the issue with the ver1 of the MT is the USB onboard is used for the WIFI network. I am not sure how you would control the unit if you had to use the USB as a mountable partition.

Ill take the device into the store and see if they have the ability to re format to factory.
