Function of 'Refresh'

'Refresh' is usually referring to 'Refresh Navigators', which is a function that causes Navigators (the several different graphical UIs that run on controllers as the on-screen UI, on touchpanels, phones, and tablets as the 'OS3 UI') to reload their project data.  Navigators pre-load ('cache') the project file, and sometimes that project file gets out of date, without the Navigators knowing that changes have been made.  Since reloading the project does take some time, and could be distracting to the user, it's minimized.

Not all changes within Composer require a Refresh Navigators, although many do.

Some of the things that do *not* require a Refresh Navigators include:

  • Changing values of things like setpoints, light levels, etc.
  • Changing the order and visibility of items within a room

Some things that *do* require a Refresh Navigators include:

  • Adding / Deleting items in ComposerPro
  • Renaming devices
  • Changing bindings (connections) between devices

There's no harm in performing a Refresh Navigators, except for navigators being unusable for a few seconds while they reload, and there is some performance penalty when you refresh navigators on a very large project with a *lot* of navigators.

Also note that for mobile devices, if the Control4 app is not running, the app will refresh the project the next time it starts, which will delay the startup a bit.
