Zigbee Pro problem

I've got two Zigbee Pro Mini Remotes which open/close my gate and arm my alarm.

When I'm walking aroung the house they work fine but when I go outside the gate it seem like the remote is out of zigbee range. At that very same gate I've got a card access contact sensor that works fine. Distance between the two 5 ft. When I take my sr250 I can walk about 100 ft outside the house. Is there a way to force the remotes on that contact sensor zigbee?

Possibly by taking the batteries out and inserting them when standing nearest the contact sensor. Zigbee is a mesh network that finds the nearest neighbor that's a parenting node to route through, so that may work.
