JR Posted January 16, 2011 Share Posted January 16, 2011 Depends on the wiring in place. Only the dimmer would need to be wired to control the light and for the switch you just need a hot, ground and neutral, cap off the load wire from the switch. Advanced properties uncheck buttons attached and it will no longer turn the load on/off. Switches can only be linked to keypads so you would then need to program the switch to turn the light on/off etc and some additional programming to turn off it's own load even though there will be none on it for the times that it does come on. I have done this in rooms where I had a switch controlling an oulet, I removed the load, rewired the outlets so they are always hot and used wireless outlet dimmers with lamps then some programming, had I not been in a rush an thought about it I would have used keypads, and plan on switching them out to keypads.
