Just add power, rs233 vs. IP control.

Recommended Posts

Is anyone familiar with the just add power 2g solution? I noticed they have rs232 control, but do they have the ability to be controlled via IP instead?

The Just Add Power boxes themselves are controlled by IP. The RS232 and IR are passthrough to control your display devices.

But with c4 doing all the device control, the rs232 port is not needed?

It is needed. Instead of needing 1 rs232 port for each tv from C4 (from multiple controllers, I/O extenders, globaltach pieces, etc) - you use 1 RS232 port for all TVs and the driver from Blackwire handles RS232 from the one RS232 port to whichever TV it needs to control. It's a one to many relationship.

any number/brand/model of RS232 controlled televisions

"All 4 of the 2G models have an unexpected bonus capability - RS232 control ports. So, in addition to being able to build an any-sized HDMI over IP matrix, these devices also will allow the custom installer to send/receive 2-way RS232 commands to any devices attached to the matrix. This includes the ability to control all of the attached displays using RS232 or via IR using a variety of readily available and easily supported RS232 to IR interfaces."
