Are you toggling the door open and closed or is it a relay setting (sustained open and closed?)

I used the visor control unit in a fireplace (relay to turn on and off) instead. Interestingly it is able to define the state (on or off) of the fireplace. On is when the relay is closed and off is when relay is open.

I used to have the Visor unit trigger the garage door opener and used a card access contact switch to define the state of the door. I now use the Houselogix liftmaster driver and it works great. No longer use the Visor unit.

I think that you need a separate contact sensor to determine the open or closed states of the door..
