  1. Imagine having to go to a dealer to buy a copy of microsoft office and not being able to use it till they installed it and tested it. Does that make any sense? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. I don't want to get into a whole business model discussion again but if Apple or Microsoft had restricted access of their stuff to only dealers and wanted you to call a dealer for all programming then they wouldn't be selling any computers. Instead they educated people on how to use them and now Apple is close to a Trillion in valuation. This whole thing about the software is too difficult to use is ... and we all know it. 3. www.lutron.learn.com You will need to set up an account and the links are in the website after you log on. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  4. Actually I was able to go directly to the local Lutron distributer (once I did the course) and get from them - so it is all legit and under warranty. Our electrician installed them when we built our house instead of whatever they were going to install.I agree that i may be in the minority that I felt comfortable programming myself. That however is the future of home automation. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. Also if you ever happen to sell the house it might work better if you have a system that isn't tied down to one company.....
  6. Advantage of Lutron : well known name in lighting and integrates with every automation system. The dealers here wont like this but the cost to outfit my entire house (90 plus dimmers and switches) was the same that was quoted to outfit a third of the house through C4. 7. Actually Radio Ra 2 is not that expensive compared to C4 if you buy online (was sig cheaper than c4 when i bought) - I bought an entire system (almost 90 devices) online and programed it myself. You can do the online course and get access to their software. The programming into C4 is where you will run into problems with - the driver is free through Houselogix but some dealers are charging quite a bit to just ID into C4. For my system it took the dealer around 2 hours to input the drivers and test the system. You could contact one of the online dealers in this forum and price it out. 8. Lutron already has an app Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  9. I go to work to make money too but I don't push products that makes it so that patients have to continue to see me every few months and avoid treatments that are cures - I will have no one come see me and my referrals will dry up and I will get sued in the process. Problem with this model is that unless people are rich (which could be what the target audience is) and don't care about cost, most people will get whatever they can afford and then curse out their dealers every time they get a bill for a simple switch rename. Isn't it enough to do an install, let people take control of their systems and build a larger base of clients? The people who are going to depend on their dealers is not going to change. It's fine- I am signing off this forum. Like the other guy said - your business your choice. Good luck. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  10. Do these companies tell their customers that they won't spec out good products because they want a perpetual ATM cash machine every time they sign on a customer? That is one amazing business model. I am a doctor and would be sued for malpractice if I did that. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  11. Lutron now allows people to download their Radio Ra2 software after completing oline training. If Lutron can do it......
  12. The updated Tapatalk mobile app is crap. The previous version was much easier to navigate.
  13. Yes and it works great. Are you toggling the door open and closed or is it a relay setting (sustained open and closed?) I used the visor control unit in a fireplace (relay to turn on and off) instead. Interestingly it is able to define the state (on or off) of the fireplace. On is when the relay is closed and off is when relay is open. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  14. I used to have the Visor unit trigger the garage door opener and used a card access contact switch to define the state of the door. I now use the Houselogix liftmaster driver and it works great. No longer use the Visor unit. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  15. I think that you need a separate contact sensor to determine the open or closed states of the door.. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
