  1. @Cyknight This is great info.

I've had a chime for about a year and love it.  However, just installed a T3-Wall10 screen yesterday.  Was hoping a doorbell button press would get a live video on the T3 (I assume this is "intercom"!?).  I know that the T3 should be able to get live video.  I'm guessing I don't have the chime set up properly.  I do see that the T3 is in the "call group".  Do you have any advice for this?  Currently, in programming, a doorbell press sends a push notification of "doorbell", and sends an announcement (I chose a rooster noise--lol).  I attach my settings as jpgs.

  2. well, @lippavisual was on the right track and it got me thinking.....

My current network flow to the TV is from Cable modem to large, rack mounted, 24 port gigabit switch to an old DLink gigabit router [(DHCP turned off) therefore converted to a network switch] and finally to the TV.  Needed the DLink router/switch as there's only one LAN port in the room and have a computer and this LG TV in the same room that need LAN.

Soooo....bypassed the old DLink router/switch and hooked up directly to the TV.  Now the TV works flawlessly.  I don't understand why this was the issue (as all the SmartTV content worked perfectly the way it was set up)....but more importantly, not sure how to proceed.....Maybe just buy a new dedicated gigabit switch for that room!?

  3. I bought two identical TV's (LG 55Nano90).  There are free C4 drivers specific to this model (which I added to the project).

Both TV's are hardwired to the internet and, obviously, have different MAC addresses.

I have the same settings on the TV's (in the LG C4 section of the TV menus) and in composer for BOTH TVs.  One works flawlessly and the other is hit and miss (mostly miss).

If I have that TV on Wi-Fi only, it'll work 50% of the time......conversely, if I have it on Wired only, it works 0% of the time.  In the properties of the TV on C4, it often says the TV is offline, and once that happens, there's zero IP control.  I've followed the driver's included instructions to a T, to no avail.

Has anyone ever experienced anything like this, or have any suggestions?

I know one solution is to use IR blasters only....but that's a final fallback plan.

    os3.2.1

    Thanks kindly.

@Wolfaslov you confirm the new firmware work on the old Engine? And this setup is compatible with the driver version 2.x??

Yes. It worked flawlessly. It’s not an easy update for a dealer to do (IMHO).

He remote connected and updated it to the new firmware (5.071 I think) in a few minutes with serial to USB adapter (pin 4 intact for this update)

I am using your driver v2.1.

BTW, thank you for all your input to make my project come to life. Happy wife = happy life

  5. Hi. Yes I had the same problem. John kindly took a few mins out of his day to remote connect to my computer to update the single engine DMX box.

Have teamviewer installed as that’s how he’ll get in. Also you need a serial cable attached from the DMX box to the computer. I used a USB to serial cable and it worked fine. And PIN 4 needs to be attached for this update!!!

It took him no more than 4 minutes.

Also, using the same power supply for many decoder is a good way to save money, but is not mandatory. as Cyknight mentioned, load your PSU to 80% and feed the most decoder you can depending of the LED load connected to them, then add another PSU and start another chain of decoders.

The best bang for the bucks for safe PSU is the Meanwell HLG series, they does not need a mounting box and you don't need to be an electrician to install them without violating the building code.

    Thanks!

Yes, I should have also clarified that I'd be using the 30LED/metre type of 5m roll.  I haven't bought them yet, but I was trying to buy them all at the same time as PSU.  Good advice on Meanwell PSU.

Also, can you confirm that the ES controller (with single output only as that's what I have bought) can NOT be upgraded to the latest firmware?  You mentioned in an earlier post that that was a possibility....

  7. Couple quick questions about this:

1- I have 5–PX24500 DMX decoders ready to install. They each appear to be rated at 15A max (5A per channel).  Would I need a power supply/transformer of 75A or higher (15A x 5 decoders)?

2- How many concurrent 5meter strips of 12V RGB led strips lights can each decoder handle before seeing a delay at the end of the strip? (Assuming I use a 12V 5050SMD type LED strip).

    Thanks

"Dream Color LED" is not new, it's just another way to call Pixel LEDs. And yes, those kind of LED are support by our driver, but you may get an hard time finding a DMX decoder that support the particular pixel chip built into your strip, and even though, you may end up with a cheap China pixel led decoder that use a single set of mosfet to dim a whole bunch of pixels, thus making the fades to just look horrible.

My personal advice if you want to go with Pixel LEDs, try to find a model with DMX onboard. I know this exist, it look like a standard strip but feature a DMX cheap for each pixel on the strip, so it become addressable independently, thus enabling lot of cool effect over a single strip, especially color chase.

Also keep in mind each LED pixels is equivalent to 3 DMX channel, and each DMX channel is equivalent to one light load in Control4. Control4 have been designed for home lighting at first and can handle a limited number of light, although this number is sufficiently high for a huge home, you may find that using pixel strip will quickly require A LOT of DMX channels to drive and you may come over what a Control4 system can handle. Better get a limited length of pixel strip in your project and if you want to get into  discotheque-like lighting setup, you may be better served by a dedicated computer and lighting software.

Wow! This adds serious complexity to the project. I'm very happy that I asked and thank you for your reply!

If I want to do just one or two 5m strips, and I found a Pixel LED strip with DMX controllers built into the strip, would the PX24500 be able to be hooked up to it? Or would I need something else?

  9. Hi.  Just in the process of buying all the components to make my home exterior come to life and never have to take Xmas lights on/off again.

I was looking at the RGB flexible strips and came across something "new" called Dream Color LED strips.  Within the same 5m strip, there can be multi-colored chase scenes and such.  I believe that a regular RGB strip can only be one color at a time....

Will this new LED type work with your driver?  I have the Engineering Solutions RS232 DMX box, and PX24500 Controllers (on order).

    Thanks!
