Yeah - saw those. but the sound to light stuff - although SUPER Cool - is not that practical for me- I'm not the disco type Looking for some more real world examples.
So what has drawn you to DMX specifically? DMX has its roots in dimming and theatrical lighting. DMX is really just a unidirectional protocol that is more reliable and faster in practice than using something like tcpip and ethernet etc. Those disco effects are quite a bit easier to master with DMX than anything else due to speed/response time.

Did you look at the youtube vids ?

I am from the north where we never had fans. I live in Atlanta now and fans are just standard. I found that having fans on low (so you don't really feel them) all the time helps with air quality and makes rooms more temp stable. That's also true when we are running heat in the winter. My fans have been on for 6 years in the current house (except when power goes out). That may not be your thing, but it's common.
You may want or like something different than everyone else and that is totally ok. Even if it means no switches next to the entry door.
If you don't think you will always own the unit I would suggest placing switch boxes where they are normally placed even if it means you don't put switches in them. If you really really want nothing on the wall you can still put a box behind the drywall and run the wire through it (no cuts, but roll up extra) on the way to the place where you want to control the circuit. That way at least someone in the future can retrofit their favorite almond lighted toggle

What's wrong with running the power for the ceiling fan box to the location where you have the keypad? I assume that is a standard box just inside the door (probably code requirement).
In the south it's not atypical for fans to run 24/7/365.

Thanks. That's helpful. How about audio extraction, 5.1 and video wall? Do the Uray products offer that over the Shinco line? Seems like these are some important features, but perhaps video wall is more commercial.
-
Seems like the Uray stuff compares better than these at the resolution limit they have. I mean no offense. More than one option is the value of your solution, so I appreciate the diversity. How would you compare these to Uray products of the same resolution?
-
Interesting that the new encoders don't compare well to your own product. Am I missing something? Why are these good when they don't have some of the important features?

The first one (4K h.264) has already passed testing. It is a very good encoder.
The second one (4K h.265) is in testing right now. The HEVC / h.265 is a nice feature, but still has a couple bugs to be worked out.
We have a new "NetPlay Ready" program that is coming online soon. It will make 3rd party encoder selection, purchasing, and configuration a lot simpler.
I'm looking at getting a 1U Uray encoder for 4K. I see above you say there are some things to work out with H.265. Are the bugs still an issue or is it worth getting at this point in time?

i would assume that one could develop an iphone app that uses the built in touchid to verify your identity and then sends an IFTT or text message or otherwise interfaces with the rest of the world and this could be used to trigger events in C4 based on touchid.
right?
Anything is possible. Are you offering?

What hardware did you have in mind?

How do you handle multiple button push with your setup? Like if I pushed a button 4 times quickly. Can I get 4 events? Or do essentially debounce that to 1 event?

Given that it's a camera that I will likely use inside my home, I like the idea of having a greater degree of control over the hardware and software. Do I know for sure that the hardware and software aren't sending video of the inside of my home back to China? No. But I think this is better than most of the alternatives.
Do you know of a small, POE camera that easily works with C4 and behaves responsibly?
I like Hikvision. I configure them on a closed network. You have quite a bit of flexibility in blocking communication on your own network. Disable things like DDNS on the camera before connecting it to a network that has internet access.
I can appreciate wanting control over the firmware. Makes sense. A person just has to weigh the trade-offs. Lots of good security cameras out there for indoors. There are cameras I would have accessible and there are cameras I would keep on a closed network. Like the kids room. But everyone has a different relationship with privacy and risk vs features and convenience.
Check out the Hikvision cube cameras. They can be nice to try out because they can be wireless and powered by a brick. You can try different locations until you find one you like and then mount and wire POE. They have good in camera features and good motion detection and IR.
What sort of need do you have? Do you want something more or less hidden for checking on the babysiter or maybe you want to check on the wellbeing of your dog while you are at work?
Hikvision is oem for a lot of other brands. I'm less trusting of those brands, but you are right to be concerned about camera firmware. Best solution is always a closed network for security cameras and never wifi.

Has anyone been able to integrate a Raspberry Pi board running MotioneyeOS (https://github.com/ccrisan/motioneyeos/wiki/Installation) with their C4 installation?
What would be the main reasons to use this vs off the shelf security cameras that do things like POE and IR?
Don't get me wrong. I like me a cool hardware project.

Just to be super clear.
You can get the Adobe Air framework from the above link.
The only other thing I use air for is Pandora one on the PC. I wish it and Flash would go away, but I guess they will drag on...

A good RGB LED Control solution for Control4 is there

How would you describe the flexibility in this context? I don't think you are limited with other technology to switch LED strips if all you are doing is on/off and dimming.
