  1. There’s seems to be a lot of misconceptions about what Josh.ai is in this thread.

Josh.ai has voice oriented hardware, but it’s a home automation hub and is technically just as capable as Control4 or Savant controllers. The odd ball factor is that Josh.ai leans into existing pro solution platforms to close integration gaps — for now.

Most, if not, all of my automations for my home outside of my home theater are currently setup using my Josh.ai Core + their natural language scripts with a mixture of native and Control4 integrations. It works better than most of the competitors minus a few gripes I have.

If Snap were to remove the control4 integration with Josh.ai, I would be forced to move to a competitor (like Savant) plain and simple. I have not upgraded my EA-1 to a core yet and won’t until I have to atm.

I loved the Neeo remotes on launch, but SnapAV ruined the product over time. The Neeo remote is plagued by battery and networking issues and just didn’t evolve the way it should have.

To get what I want, a Neeo like design with decent hardware, some form of platform portability, and good snappy UI — the AVA Cinema remote is targeting people like me. Control4’s offerings remain crappy tbh.

Just wondering....since we use an AppleTV, I am guessing there's no easy way to get icons on the screen to pick the app to lauch, at this point? Or has anyone used shortcuts to make this happen?

not like i can get the $900 past my wife for this 😮

There is a way to do this, but no one has made a companion app to do it with Control4.

you basically have to have a companion app run in the background launching shortcut app URLs.

As I posted previously, I actually moved my NEEO from my "expensive" AP (probably still cheaper than what most people here use) to a "cheap" AP I added just for the NEEO, and have had zero problems. It is one of only two devices on the new AP, so maybe the NEEO just doesn't like to share. In any case, I seriously doubt upgrading one's network guarantees the NEEO will work. When my Halo Touch arrives, I will be moving the NEEO to my bedroom and will just hope I can find a way for it to work back there.

When are the Halo Touches planned to release? I’m tempted to sell my fairly new Neeo remotes and just replace them with a Touch.

@thecodingart do you know what model ubiquiti? Is it a separate ssid for the remotes? General settings? Any other configuration info?

No separate SSID or VLAN for the remotes. Specifically setup with a 2.4GHz band. We have a few different types of Access Points, but the nanoHD and the U6 Lite are the primaries. The remotes show the same behavior behind various in-wall and Mesh Pro APs (as a note).

For me, it's a UXG-P + CloudKey setup. The setup itself didn't really change over a long period of time other than periodic UniFi software updates (performed manually). The timing of the disconnects did not seem to correlate with any of the updates.

I did attempt locking them to a single AP so they wouldn't jump (just in case). That didn't help at all.

So, Obviously I'm biased since I work at Chowmain, but my recommendations at this time would be:

    • Bond Bridge (lots of uses)
    • Bond Sidekicks where beneficial
    • Configurable Keypads everywhere else
    • Shelly (using our driver of course). Plus / Pro modules if possible (as they're second gen ones)
    • If an alarm is needed, ELK M1 (but with our new 2nd Gen driver which hasn't been officially released yet), or Bosch
    • Lighting would entirely depend on the circumstances , such as whether I went puck based, light bulbs, or other things
    • Our scheduler for managing lighting
    • Unifi for cheap networking. Access Networks for high end
    • Lots of good options for Security cameras
    • It's more expensive, but Big Ass Fans for Ceiling fans (the API is absolutely awesome with these, and they're actually incredibly powerful/configurable. Also, the only support enquiries we get are related to using the old Haiku firmware instead of the newer BAF firmware which replaces the Haiku firmware, so they're reliable)
    • BluStream for video distribution (I was actually using this when I was an installer too)
    • Intesis for HVAC

And then anything else I need for the job

Also, I'd 100% use a Core Controller, Halo, and T4's (I would NOT mount normal tablets to the walls, as I don't like the idea of strapping continuously charging Lithium batteries permanently to a wall). At this point of time, nobody should be installing HC series controllers anymore, and the Core controllers are better long term than the EA ones. if I had the money, CA-10 of course..

Also, just to add, there should be om4/5 fibre to all TV's and wifi points at this time. It's cheap, and it futureproofs the system. Ideally, you should be using conduit too

Are you using the Chowmain driver for BAF? I’m unaware of a native driver or integration existing atm. Although, when talking with BAF support, they seemed to strongly suggest something is coming.
