Airplay/Spotify Connect Volume Control

Hi guys,

I have found a few threads about this but none of recent. My client would like to use Tidal, Spotify & Airplay on his system however Airplay & Spotify volume should be controlled from their native apps opposed to within Control4. In your experience, is this successfully deployable via programmatic changes to the start volume when either Airplay or Spotify experiences are started? Please note,  i am comfortable with the programming aspect of this so my question is just to gain some confidence (or not) that others are successfully using this and if there are any pitfalls that i should look out for. It seems to work okay after some fiddling around with finding the correct volume for each room but at the back of my mind im worried that if the volume doesn't drop down for one reason or another then we are left with some damaged speakers... of which there is many £££'s!

Any thoughts or advice would be appreciated!

Thanks,

David

Thanks @msgreenf. Do you use it along with native C4 apps like Tidal and Tune in? and if so, do you control the volume of Spotify Connect in the Spotify app itself or do you use C4 app?If the Spotify app itself then i'm assuming that you have programming set to increase the Start volume so that you have some range on the Spotify app? otherwise i find you have no range as 100% in the Spotify app is still quite low in the C4 side of things... I hope this makes sense!

Both.  Just depends which is open.  I have the spotify connect drive set to allow controlling the volume in C4.

I've never had to do this and I have never noticed the volume to be low......

Same here i use Tidal and Spotify natively

Airplay and streaming direct to Spotify with the Spotify app and volume control works both ways never had to do any custom programming.

the only thing i have on is initial room volumes these should stop your speakers turning loud and blowing them....

i don't know if this is gonna help you, but i have my audio endpoint set to my audio matrix for the volume control and not my power amps (eventho they are ip controlable) i have set them to 75%, fixed my inputs and outputs then unplugged the ethernet cable, and programmed the amp to come on with a trigger. :) this way im avoiding the "double matrix" issue.

Thanks

Thanks for your reply guys. That is odd. The only difference here is i have no audio Matrix and its all EA Processors connected to TVs or Triad 1s with Active speakers. the result being that the start volume of Spotify and Airplay has to be much higher than embedded sources so that when turning up the volume on the iPhone you have some range. If starting from the same volume as am embedded app then the iPhone is at 100% within a few clicks and the user needs to change to the C4 app for any further volume increases however they do not want to use the C4 app. Anyways, thanks for guide and ill mess around and see what i can work out with the programming.

Have a great weekend.

Thanks David

Everyones millage varies when doing stuff like this, so not everyone initial volumes etc as the same as the next persons due to variations in equipment etc.

Just play around with it and see how you get on.

You have a great weekend too

+ its a bank holiday today in the UK!!

Thanks
