ichbinbose
not really. is it in a cabinet? in a rack? does it have ventilation?
groomden
it is in a cabinet on top of a tivo, which feels a good 65% cooler, has at least 6" of overhead clear air, over a foot to the back, quite a bit on the sides too.
thecodeman
Need to be moving some air through that cabinet. The tivo is pre-heating the HC300, I'll bet.
groomden
just double checked -- its actually sitting on the next level of the cabinet, with a Motorola SDV little box on top. lots of clear air. i'll ask my installers about it the next time they are out. maybe i'm just not used to an old-school hot appliance anymore? Unless you have a HUGE VOLUME of dead space, you need to recycle the air.
thecodeman
Yeah, I killed a Dish 622 DVR that way.
negativesir
My HC-300 also gets pretty hot. I think the material that encases the hardware was meant to act as a heat sink. Could be wrong. My guess is that the HC-800 won't run as hot.
thecodeman
The 800 does have active cooling, where the 300 does not.
