MTS Power
I'm running an HC-300. I have my alarm system in one DB9 and my Den Reciever in the other. I now need a third serial port. Any ideas on how to do this without new hardware?ThanksBarry
AVHomeInstalls
Can new 3rd device be IP controlled? If not maybe test a IR driver for the receiver.
LSDave
Technically you could with control4 because there is no real handshaking. But you would most definitely run into problems. Reason being is you would be sending the commands for both devices to each device. RS232 isnt like IR in the sense that nothing happens if you send it incorrect commands. The 2 devices would have to have the same baud rate and parity and stop bit settings. Serial is 2 way communication and some devices spit back errors or have to wait so long after a command before receiving another one. So if you are sending commands not meant for it, the commands meant for the device may not be received correctly. You could try it, there are simple circuits out there to split an RS232 connection, but i would bet you are going to run into issues.Just buy an HC200 or IO extender and you have more serial connections. Keter8
How about a Global Caché TCP/IP to Serial?
