abeasst
So in my 2 switch boxes I have a white, red, and black wire connected to each switch. How do I wire up the the adaptive phase and auxiliary keypad?
ILoveC4
Have you looked at the instructions that came with it? It's very straightforward.
abeasst
Have you looked at the instructions that came with it? It's very straightforward. The instructions aren't helpful when the wiring diagrams show 4 and 5 wires and there are only 3.
ILoveC4
Here's how these circuits work.At some point in the circuit, there is power coming in. This will have a white wire, black wire and a ground. Also at some point, there is wire identical to that going to the light fixture. Between the two switches, there is a similar wire except it has an additional wire, which is red. This is called the traveler. In rare (at least in my experience) instances the power source will come in at the light fixture. If that is what has been done, it's going to be a real pain in the ass for you, but may possibly still be able to be done. It is going to depend on if you have access to where the fixture is wired. Is it a recessed can light? Hopefully not. Hopefully it's a hanging fixture you can remove to reveal the wires.Let us know what type of fixture it is. Also, take a photo of the wires coming in to each of the boxes, as well as the wires as the fixture (assuming you can access them). Don't stress, this is very straightforward. Cyknight
It sounds like you may have a 4-wire (inc ground) going from the main switch to the 2nd location - which means 2 are being used as the switchlegs between them and the third is either looped back to the wire going to the light, or to the power-source. Which that is you'll need to figure out.Ignore the whole second location (disconnect), and wire the dimmer so it works by itself. Once you have that you now have three wires to use as you want to follow the instructions that come with the dimmer (basically you'll ignore the red and use black for auxillary and white for a neutral feed from the first box as per the first diagram)
