campuscomputers
Hi.Just wondering how do you guys install the wireless keypad in a retrofit home? Do you replace a light switch with the keypad or do you have to cut new holes in the drywall? And do you have to run new power cables to the keypad? Thanks! slemay
Keypads can either be powered by 110v or by 36v low voltage. So it's up to the installer if they're certified or have an electrician they use. They CAN NOT replace existing light switches (ie: a 2 button controller cannot replace a light switch - but a 2 button DIMMER can replace a light switch). Button controllers are ADDONs for existing dimmers, light switches or for other programming functionality.Hope this answers your question.
neil12011
I think what he is asking is, in a retrofit situation, are you just making a jumper from existing power that goes to the light switch, or running new power wire...and also are you cutting in the sheetrock for bigger gang boxes??? PeterM1
I like the look of keypads clustered together with dimmers, thus 99% of the time I install a larger gang box for retrofits. I do this today mostly with Compose PLC systems.
jbs
I'll reiterate here a dream C4 item I'd love to see some day . . . a single-gang device that provides 6-button keypad functionality but includes load control. It's such a no-brainer for retrofits that I'm amazed it's not already been done. This would allow you, with no drywall work and no changing of boxes, to take out a light switch and put in a C4 unit and provide the client with keypad functionality as well as normal control of their light.I such an item were available, I'd probably add another 5 keypads to my house.--Jason
neil12011
Seriously this would own....wonder if there is any chance of ever seeing one??
RyanE
It's an oft-requested piece of hardware, and it's thrown around as an option for something we could do, but I haven't seen it on any roadmaps as of yet.RyanE
mrpugh
In the UK we don't have the dimmers like the US. We have 2, 3, and 6 button keypads, and for dimming we have in-line dimmers which splice into the feeds to the lighting circuits.
